Ovi Store - 'Friends Birthdays' Never Forget a Birthday Again.!

fbs I was browsing Ovi Store last night, looking at how the Store itself is coming alone, and I must say, its starting to look a bit more mature now, with a better interface with the latest N97 client, which has added tabs, and enabled the overall experience of browsing, and search for specific applications much easier.

Whilst i was looking through the contents of the Ovi Store, I came across a little gem of an Application, specifically for S60 5th Edition Nokia devices, its called Friends Birthdays, from Marvellous. Well, if your like me, this title struck a chord, as Im am terrible at remembering friends, and family members Birthdays, so I thought I would check it out.

It's actually a very simple concept of an application, but one which is a 'must have' for the likes of myself, who always forgets Birthdays, or finds out the hard way when I'm reminded I've missed a Birthday. Of course, this is an ideal Birthday Reminder application for those of you with many friends on facebook too. I mention facebook, because what this application does, is sync it's own Calendar, with all of your facebook contacts Birthdays, but don't panic, you have full control of the synced content, and can select which Birthdays you wish to set up reminders for. Simple. Here's a quote from Marvellous, the creators of this great little application.

"Friends Birthdays helps you remember and celebrate birthdays within your friends network. Using your Facebook account information, the application will save and store all your friends ’ birthdays in a special calendar. You can choose important birthdays that you don’t want to forget and receive an alert on your handset to remind you. You can also use the application to send a mobile birthday card to your friend via MMS picture messaging (this will be charged at your standard network rate)".

Marv You can download Friends Birthdays from Ovi Store here, or search Ovi Store on your mobile device, and search for Birthdays, and you will see the image (top left) pop up in results. As said, its a free application, and is very easy to set up. Once installed, when you first launch it, there are clearly displayed Instructions on the steps to take in order to set it up, its really simple to follow. cards What I found however, when you first select "Update Birthdays", what will happen is your device's browser will launch, and load up facebok, which you then need to sign in and give the application Friends Birthdays permission to access your friends required information.

Once done, close the browser, return to the app, and select "Update Birthdays" once again, and it will then quickly sync your friends Birthdays to its own Calendar. I have almost 300 friends on facebook, and it took just a few seconds to sync. Impressive.

What I would like to see in a future release of this application, is integration with your devices own Calendar, and alerts. That would make this application even more awesome.

Oh, did I mention, you can send Birthday Cards to your friends on their Birthday too with this App? Well, yes, you can, and again, its very simple to do. Enjoy, and never get in trouble again for forgetting someone's Birthday ever again.!
