FlipSilent

Tong Ren from Symbian Blog has beaten accelerometer app coding maven Samir to the punch with "FlipSilent". A similar program to the much anticipated latest efforts of Samir, ShutUp, that silences a ringing phone with a flip of the device. FlipSilent gives us the ability to not only decline an incoming call, but also put the device in silent mode.

The application allows the following configurations to be made-

1, Flip Over 
    - silent profile: make your phone go to the silent profile
    - Hang up Call: Hang up the call when a call is coming in
    - Both: Do both mentioned above  — DEFAULT
2, Flip Back:
    - previous profile: use the profile you used before — DEFAULT
    - Silent profile: remain in the silent profile
    - Standard profile: use the standard profile
3, Auto Start
    - No: start without the phone boot
    - Yes: Start with the phone boot with the configuration interface
    - YES & Hide: Start with phone boot, and goes into background

It'd be nice to see a little more customization of the features- such as the option to just silence a call instead of declining it altogether when flipping the device. Some other options as to which profile will be activated when you perform either flip would be nice as well. Overall a fairly decent start to a slick little app. 

Another very nice feature of this app, and personally a more practical feature, is the ability to activate the 'snooze' button with the same flip movement that silences your calls. Flip your phone, snooze activated- and the device can also be placed in silent mode. When the snooze is up, you alarm will sound again. Very hand for users like me who are far from morning people.

The developer has some unorthodox distribution methods right now, though he says we can be expecting quicker access to the file once it is signed. He'll even sign the app for you if you send him your IMEI.

Too cool, this app. The new Nokia Arte can do this too, but I think at the moment we're just touching the surface of what the built in accelerometer can do. First the instant screen re-orientation, now the flipsilent. What next?

Yeah, it really is a pretty slick little application- and that's a fantastic question- what is next?
