MobileCampLA
I'm just back from the MobileCampLA event, where everyone had a great time. There was a lot of very interesting discussion on an array of topics that I'll be covering in the next couple of days. I'd like to give everyone an idea of what the MobileCamp events are all about in the meantime- what goes on, what can be expected. It's a fantastic concept, and they're happening all around. There was one recently in NY, last week in LA, and another one in NY on the 10th. It's full up right now, and promises to be a wild time, but it'd still be worthwhile to get your name on the waiting list if you're in there area.

Hop on over to http://barcamp.org/MobileCampNYC2 for information about the next event, and to fire off an email to the organizers to see if they can fit you in. It's a free event, there's a ton of things going on- lunch seems to be provided, they sent out an In-n-Out truck to feed all the digital natives in LA.

If you need anymore incentive- the LA event was sponsored by Nseries, and there were quite a few prizes given away for a mobile trivia game and an "entrepreneurial improv" competition. Some very nice prizes. I got me one of those N95s. The US variant with the AT&T 3.5G frequency... and twice the RAM as the original model. I'm a happy geek right now. Yeah. I enjoyed this event- not just because I flew back home one N95-3 and all the fixin's heavier than when I went out there, but a little because of that. ;)

A big thanks once again to everyone at http://www.womworld.com for sponsoring my presence at the event. It was fantastic to meet a couple more from the crew, Richard and Siobhan made it out from the UK to this kickass event- great to meet them. It's always a treat to speak with such enthusiastic people about Nseries devices and other things going on in the mobile world.

 From the page- http://www.barcamp.org/mobilecampLA

A BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants.

MobileCampNYC was the first MobileCamp to be held in NYC and focus on mobile technology. It was enjoyed by all, as you can see on the official page here.

MobileCampLA is going to similarly bring together mobile enthusiasts, explorers and professionals (this time in the Los Angeles metropolitan area) to share the current state and their visions for the future direction of mobility. MobileCampLA hopes to support the many voices helping to unlock the potential of a truly digital life. Topics may include - but are not limited to - mobile gaming, entrepreneurship, social mobility and presence, near field communication, physical hyperlinking, mobile storytelling, the importance of open standards, protocols, and platforms, linux based devices, and mobility on other continents.
