Last night, Nokia changed up a gear, and announced a new device direct to the people by posting a short video to Youtube, rather than the old fashioned way of a press release to a big name. This is a welcomed sight, and I for one am very happy to see Nokia do this.Â
The E72 is the new device shown, similar looking to the E71, but boasting a 5MP camera.! It looks like Nokia have been listening to us after all.!
Some blogs, and other sites are claiming this video release was an accident, but I for one do not think this at all. Checkout the video below, which is from Symbian Freak, who also believe the video release was an accident.Â
The all new Nokia E72 boasts a host of new features including optical scrolling and a five-megapixel camera. Building on the success of the E71, the E72 takes the very best of Nokia’s most successful QWERTY device and makes it even better. The super-slim 10mm frame has been refined with some sleek design touches and inside the device is treated to a range of user interface improvements too. More here.
Also, the 5530 has been revealed in Nokia Conversations Pass the Parcel Game. Click "Read More" for the video, and breakdown on the device, and of course to find out the winner of the Nokia Conversations "Pass the Parcel" game.
It’s done! The last layer of the parcel has been removed and it’s a phone! A Nokia 5530 XpressMusic to be precise. You guys all knew something was up when those last layers were revealed.
Taking its cue from the Nokia 5800, this music and entertainment device has a full touch interface and a new home screen and Contacts Bar - all in a sightly smaller and sleeker package. This device not only brings the great media handling that one comes to expect from an XpressMusic phone, but the new Contacts bar brings your people to the forefront.
In addition to being revealed in Pass the Parcel, the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is on show at the Nokia Connection event in Singapore today. Read on for more detail on this product and the Pass the Parcel winner.Â
The scoop on the newcomer
I know you all want the skinny on the 5530, but you already know it from the game. Yes, this phone has a large touch screen with tactile feedback (I like to say it touches you back) and no physical keys; a 3.2-megapixel camera and LED flash; Bluetooth, WiFi, and EDGE for all your connection needs; a music player for all the stuff you download from the Nokia Music Store; widescreen video playback at 640Ă—360; hot-swappable MicroSD slot (4GB included); and a standard 3.5mm audio plug for your rocking headsets.
People carousel
It’s all about quick access. There’s the Media Bar drop-down that’s also on the Nokia 5800, for quick access to the music player, browser, and photos. But on the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, you can also define 4 shortcuts for the home screen (say, for Facebook or MySpace quick links). Also, one of the big additions, we think, is the new Contact Bar that lets you have up to 20 contacts, making it easy to quickly call or send a message, review conversation history, or follow the contact’s feed. It’s like a quick dashboard on your 20 most important people. What’s more, add a pic to those contacts and your peeps are front-and-center.
The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic should start shipping in the third quarter of 2009 at around €199, retail, before taxes and subsidies.
And the winner is…
Let’s not forget the Pass the Parcel game.
The winner, PhoneDog.com, will be getting a Nokia 5530 XpressMusic before it ships (still with that factory aroma), some small goodies, and also a “date” with the Product Manager to interview for their site. We’re also going to be having some goodies for the other Pass the Parcel participants, which we will announce later. And, like we said before, we have a treat for one lucky person who has been commenting on our Pass the Parcel pages, which we will also announce later.
