Just a few days ago, a Record attempt was announced to be taking place this year, in what can only be described as out of this world, a trip to the Edge of Space. Then, a Human will free fall in a speed record attempt from the edge of outerspace. The existing Record for this kind of jump was set back in 1960 by Colonel Joseph Kittinger, who jumped from an staggering 19 miles above planet Earths surface.
Felix Baumgartner, the brave man who will be attempting to beat this record, will be jumping not 19, but from 23 miles above earth, and will experience speeds of almost 700mph, that's Mach 1.! Felix is no stranger of course to this kind of thing however, having been the first man to freefall, and fly across the Atlantic. Checkout some of Felix's videos, and Bio here.
In this new Venture, Felix will of course be using the very latest in technology to his advantage, which boasts of a craft type suite with wings, sensors everywhere imaginable, and of course, an auto parachute deployment safety backup, incase Felix is knocked unconscious. There is more than just a World Record being beaten to this feat. To see how the body reacts to such speeds and to gather unique medical and scientific data that will help future pioneers and developments pushing new frontiers
