Nokia N78 Announced, Offers NAM Support

Written by Brandon

Nokia N78In addition to the N96, Nokia also made the N78 a reality -with official North American support. We didn't hear quite as much about this one prior to the release, as much of the attention was focused on the beefier N96. The N78 looks to be a cheaper N82 in terms of design and specifications; packing a 3.2 mega-pixel camera, AGPS, wifi, and bluetooth with A2DP and EDR support. I must commend Nokia on actually announcing the two separate versions simutaneosly, as opposed to having to upgrade a few months down the road.

My only question is: Why on the N78? If you have a Nokia in North America it is typically a high end N or E series -or a ultra cheap one you received with your carrier contract. If you were to buy an N series 4-6 months from now, you would likely grab the N82 or N95. After that I would guess the N96 would also fall into that pool. I do not foresee the N78 being a highly sought after device in North America unless it becomes bundled in with contracts, and with AT&T's rapid 3G expansion maybe that is what will happen. Bottom line: I would have loved to see this option in the N96, and with a Q3 release date it may not be to late. But if the N78 does suit your needs, expect a Q2 release date at a price of 350 ($510).

Hit the jump for the official specs, and Ricky again has the official data sheets at Symbian Guru ....
