I was looking on the web today and saw that Gizmodo has a great summary of what this gesture touch thing is all about. It seems that back in January of this year Nokia slipped in a little patent application for a type of ultrasonic senors so that you can use your hands (fingers) to manipulate the screen. Looking through the application you see a whole lot of gesture this and gesture that in tapping, circular, and linear motion.
I also found it interesting that Nokia states many of the movements in the application specifically an example of this is "[0066]The use of the display 52 can provide for one finger and multiple finger-based gestures to be recorded and processed in accordance with the exemplary embodiments of this invention. Several non-limiting examples are now provided." and "[0083]8. Gesture: Linear approaching/digression(fingers approach, then move apart, and vice versa, see FIG. 8D). [0084]Attributed command: Zoom-In/Out, Size adjustment"
Well boys and girls stretch your hands and get your spirit fingers ready to do work because Nokia once again is taking it to a new level. Lets just hope the new device really doesn't look like a Palm.
