Much to the excitement of no one, the N95 is now officially
available to order in red. Carrying the same specs and lack of firmware updates as previous N95-3's, the red
N95 carries a hefty price tag of $699 and is obtainable here. I would personally hold off a few weeks until other
dealers have the phone, as we have seen prices nearly $200 USD cheaper for the exact same phone in different colors.
Also, it appears Nokia skipped out on the promoting this product
under the (Red) network. This is a bit
disappointing as multiple other manufactures are offering their products (Apple iPods,
Motorola Razors, etc) under the (Red) label, which helps woman and children
with AIDS in Africa. Tsk, Tsk, Nokia……

Nokia announced the 3120 classic,
although designed like that of the old 3120 this new classic (I know it’s an
oxymoron) candy bar slim phone packs a good punch in it's small frame. According to Nokia’s site under European
Phones (its current location) the phone features a user friendly S40 interface
for navigation.Operating frequencies
are GPRS: MSC 1(850/900/1800/1900),Quad-band
GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900, Dual-band WCDMA 850,2100 / 900,2100 / 850,1900.Having a large operating frequency range I
could see this phone being in the United States soon after release, but don't quote me on that. Other features that will grab your attention. the phone boasts 3G, a Micro SD slot up to 4 gb, 2” QVGA screen, 2 mega
pixel camera on back and another cam on the front, MP3 Player, FM Radio supporting Visual Radio, and
slim dimensions of 4.3" x 1.8" x .5".According
to EngadgetMobile , this phone will run €150, $223 at release next quarter in a large range of colors such as Plum, Graphite,
Chestnut Brown, Powder White, and Deep Red.
Wow, that’s a lot of bang for the buck, also check out more pictures
after the jump.
Here's something I've been hoping for ever since I strapped on my first WiFi Nseries device- JoikuSpot. This wicked little app turns your Nseries mobile into a WiFi hotspot, sharing your 3G connection to anyone in range- even if that's some poor schlub with an iPhone. Now that lot too can appreciate HSDPA and revel in the marvel that is how mobile browsing should really be.
One thing to note is that this beta release does not allow for encryption, nor does it care about MAC addresses, so you'll want to be careful with it- lest you share your 3G with the world (I say thee 'yay' open networks and share with my brother, though you may disagree). A roadmap is in the works that adds such needful security features, but for now- if you're part of a crowd that needs data now, and there's no WiFi access, be the guy that saves the day. Just be sure to tether yourself not only to your fellow data users, but to a wall as well- this app will no doubt beat the living hell out of your battery. I hope to do some testing on that later and report back, and will most assuredly be taking JoikuSpot with me on the trip to Mobile World Congress next week.
I've just used it to connect an N82 to my N95-3, and it works great- though you want to make sure you're not currently connected to a WiFi network or you will see startup errors. Click here for the download, and happy sharing. :)
When the N82 was launched in November last year, we were promised more color options- a promise that was fulfilled with the white N82- though that model was only an N82 with a white backplate. When rumors began to fly about the black N82, a lot of speculation was made as to whether this will be the same old N82 with a black backing. The discussion is over now. Stefan at Intomobile.com has spotted the black N82, and just as many had hoped, it's full on black. I have to admit, at least in the pictures, this is one great looking device in the new color. I would have to imagine we'll be seeing the announcement at MWC next week- so keep an eye out here as we hope to bring you live pictures of this saucy little black number and whatever else pops up at MWC.
The price is $630, and the ETA is set for February 12th, in the USA only. Not even Canada is getting this one yet it seems as it's not listed on the Canadian Nokia site.
This strikes me as quite odd- because the specs state that it is a WCDMA 2100 device, meaning US buyers will be limited to EDGE, no NAM 3G this round. It's nice to see Nokia pay attention to the American market, but seriously... are we going to see a real NAM variant down the road? Should we take past actions as a warning, and wait this one out? Who's going to buy this thing in the US with Euro 3G, assuming that there will be a NAM variant right behind it? Perhaps we're all jumping too far ahead of the announcement and we'll be seeing the black N82 released globally next week- at least it would make sense.
Buyer beware....? If you're still feeling frisky- order away.
That’s right its
like Christmas all over for the GSM handset consumers. The Mobile World Congress is taking place February
11th – 14th, 2008.According to Nokia’s S60 Blog there is a big release coming at this
event for this software platform. Some features include a new touch UI,
sensors, framework, full web browsing and more.I only can image what else they will becoming out with at
this event, what would you like to see possibly be released?
The
Mobile World Congress is made up of key industry leaders from throughout the
world of the GSM global market. This is “The
Event” where the companies announce their best and newest products. Not only will there be key speakers but also
a exhibit section with sales staff demoing product and also interactive zones. The event is ran by the GSMA which is a trade
association consisting of 600 companies world wide. To see more information on
the event click the link Mobile World Congress and keep an eye out for any news updates on the site during
the event.
Nokia
is becoming a company that just cannot be stopped.According to an article in the New York Times
on January 25, 2008, Nokia has obtained an outstanding market share of 40% of
the global handset market in the forth quarter.Nokia said that they have sold 77.8 million phones in Asia, Africa, and
the Middle East, almost doubling the 42.3 million sold in Europe and North
America.Nokia also claims to have sold
over 133 million handsets from October to December.Who would have thought that one company could
have gained so much when holding only 20% market share back in 1997.
N81 users can now download and install the NGage gaming platform application where select NGage titles can currently be trialled and purchased. The First Access Ngage launch is limited to the Nseries N81 at the moment and will be available to other compatible Nokia users, one would imagine, very soon.
YouTube has released a Beta version of their own FlashLite3.0
app that allows the users of several S60 devices from Nokia, and a couple
Sony/Ericsson devices as well to view the entire YouTube catalog, browse favorites and subscriptions associated with your good ol' standard YouTube account. Devices currently listed as compatible are the
Nokia 6110, 6120, E65, N73 and N95, and the S/E K800 and W880.
As always with first run beta software, there are a few
issues with this release. I’ve been running the YouTube app on the N95 this
morning- so my experience is limited to that device at the moment. For starters, one of the most annoying
hitches with this release is that to hear the audio of a file, you must not be
in Silent Mode, and your warning tones must be enabled- the later is quite
nearly a deal breaker for me. There is also no option to view the video clips
in full screen mode either- even if you swap to landscape mode via operating
the slider or with the use of RotateMe. Though a couple of the icons and such
are hidden when playing videos in landscape, it just does not fill the screen as
EmTube users may be used to.

It's been quite a while since this was first mentioned and pretty much got overlooked with FlipSilent being released. But as promised, Samir has released the first beta of ShutUp (Even if it is a little fashionably late). Donators have exclusive access to this application currently whilst it is on Samir's forum. If you have not donated already, let me give you a few reasons why you should.
FlipSilent was released a good few weeks ago now and generally took our minds from ShutUp, thinking that Samir had lost his chance in getting this application out to us. But living up to the standards and expectations he has personally produced, he has addressed us with this; my first nominee application of the year! ShutUp has a few more minor features than FlipSilent currently has, including a sensitivity setting, though it lacks the support for alarms. But there's one thing that's caught me totally by suprise! Get this.. ShutUp also includes the fully featured support of call answering and ending with opening and closing of the slider!! (Respectively)
This is one feature I have been waiting 6 months for, since the day my N95 arrived on my doorstep. I cannot express enough how wonderful it is to have this feature back again. It's so simple yet Nokia (For one reason or another) decided to leave it out of the N95, leaving many users a bit lost. A small feature, definitely; but one that I now cherish very much. Thankyou Samir!
I very much recommend going and grabbing yourself a copy of this by donating to Samir now and gaining access to his forums. I can guarantee this is one application you will love! I have more details and pictures after the jump..
NiiMe is a brand new application, and infact the newest on the scene to take advantage of our accelerometers. Asier Arranz (A.k.a. A2J), the developer, has just released the second installment (v0.02) with some bug fixes, all for our geeky thrills. The simple mouse controlling application runs in Python via the phone and the PC to record and transfer data of movement on a 2 axis basis, which in turn gives you a 'Wii like' experience when using your computer. As you can guess, it's not amazingly accurate and would require alot of practice before it could be considered a practical form of input. A novelty? Maybe so, but we love it! :D
Downloads, instructions and a video demo all after the jump..
