Review: Bloove Agent -- Verdict:Very Useful

I have been giving Bloove Agent a run through for a little over a month now and thought it would be a good time to let the our readers know if it is worth it or not. There really isn't much to lose since the program is free ware and downloaded through your mobile.

Bloove Agent is a newer program still in development which allows the users to edit items such as contacts, messages (sms), send sms messages, bookmarks, speed dial options, and your phone log. I was using OVI for some of these options but after I caught wind of this new program on N95Users Forum I thought, why not, well it seems that now I am hooked.

Bloove is a program still in development and they are constantly looking at ways to make it better. Currently Bloove is available to 176 phones and according to Bloove all modern Symbian and J2ME phones from Nokia and Sony Ericsson. Message folders and messages archive are supported only for Symbian phones. Logs are supported only for Nokia S60 phones. The product is either free with limited services or for $36 a year for more services such as multiple phones on an account, more archive slots for messages and contacts. The advantage is that your contacts will be saved so if you get a new phone, install the app and then your set because your contacts are already online to sync.

Check out the full review after the break.

Update: Bloove has updated me on what they are working on.  It seems that a Windows Mobile 6.0 platform is in the works and also a Scheduled Auto Sync for Symbian Devices.  Good to hear.

The sign up process is very easy with just going to their website, Bloove.com, and you will enter your username (case-sensitive), a password, and your email. After everything is all set then you log back in with your new user name and then it directs you to download the agent from your phone by visiting, http://bloove.com/m or by scanning the bar code seen below and it will direct you to the site when you open the link, and install it.

Although this was easy on my N95, the E71 was getting a certificate error and this was fixed by accessing the app manager and allowing all software to be installed. After the program is installed you receive a Agent ID which you enter on your computer. Finally, you will choose your access point and then it will give you the Sync Done when it is complete. Now all your information from you phone has synced with Bloove on your computer and you can edit to your hearts content.

For anything to be changed on your phone you need to leave the app running at all times; unfortunately it will not run in the background so you cannot do anything else on your phone at the same time. The editing contacts is simple as pie. You can select how many you want displayed on the screen from 20 and up. You are able to add several options such as email, company, address, phone numbers and even an contact image. This feature works really well since you get a picture upload it and then select what part of the image you want to save. I was able to do this with all my contacts and when it syncs again, there you have it, your phone has them added.

You will see the phone numbers are all highlighted as a link, if you click them they will be added to a new screen in which you can start a call or enter text to send a SMS. The SMS feature works well also, you keep your true identity because it is sent through your phone via the wireless syncing software. You get 160 characters to make your point to whom ever you like. If you want to send a SMS text to someone who is not in your contacts just simply enter their number. If you want to look at previous SMS Messages, then click the SMS Section and if you want to filter them. Click the talk bubble by the text and it will filter all messages from that person, this seems to work only with the last six message recipients though. You also have tabs along the top for your Inbox, Sent, Drafts, and My Folders.

Moving on, I edited all my speed dial numbers which was a piece of cake. Something I really like about this application is that on your PC everything is spelled out on the left side of the screen. By clicking speed dial it shows all your numbers associated with the speed dial number. If you want to add them you can type the number in or you can select the speed dial option within the contacts editing screen for each contact.

I edited my bookmarks for mobile browsing by creating them and deleting the ones I didn't want. This program covers your basic options on the phone that can be a pain in the but to edit on the phone.

I do have a wish list to see what this app can become so Bloove if your reading:

1. Calendar Support w/ either Gmail accounts or just the calendar on your phone

2. Photo Support - To be able to look at and possible organize photos on the site (such as albums) this would be a great feature to help add photos to contacts list. Also Upload options to Facebook, OVI, Blogger, Vox, MySpace, Flickr, etc...

3. Possible video support, your giving this app to s60 devices mainly Nokia phones; they are highly used for media. Also online upload support to social networks.

4. A File Manager possibly somehow to look at text files, pdf. (Something similar to a y-browser) that lets you either look at the phone memory or the memory card.

5. App to run in the background (I know your working on scheduled sync)

6. Possible Ring Tone Manager

7. I would like the contacts picture to show up on the main contacts page instead of having to let my cursor sit over the contact

Overall, Bloove agent is one application I would recommend for you to give a shot. I enjoy it because my contacts are always saved to my sim card and when I get a new phone such as switching to the E71 from WomWorld to trial. I copy my contacts back to the phone via sim card, install the app, and reset my speed dials again, my bookmarks, and edited some contacts I want. It was just a simple way to start out using a phone which then was just like my N95 in regards to my contacts, speed dial settings, and bookmarks. I have been using this over OVI now since I heard of it back in December of last year. If you have any questions about Bloove please head over to their forum where they answer questions very quickly to make sure their customers are taken care of. I can only wait now and see what other features will get added.
