It's true- SpinVox is ultra-cool. I’ve got to blather on again about this product. I really, really believe in SpinVox. I’ve been using it for about a week- or has it been two weeks now? I actually can’t remember- because it’s one of those things you start using and it feels like you’ve been using it forever, or at least you wonder why you haven’t  been using it forever. In this week, or two, I’ve been picking up on a few of the many reasons why SpinVox is so cool and wickedly valuable. You might have thought SpinVox just converted voice into text- and while this is true, this is only one of the many ways that SpinVox makes things easier, and safer really. Here’s one example I ran across just the other day... read on.

SpinVox Memo

I was driving home, just picked up my 6 month old daughter from my in-laws when Sarah called from the hospital (she works there, everyone is fine). Strangely, my cell isn’t readily available quick enough to grab the call- SpinVox steps in and takes the call, converting her spoken voice into text- you know the rest. The message arrives, I retrieve my mobile and see that she wants to know if she needs to pick up Olivia from her mom’s on the way home. Here’s the thing- she’s called from a hospital land line, a number that when called back routes to the hospital operator- can’t call her back, or better yet- just hit “reply” and fire her off a text. She carries something called a SpectraLink- it’s some sort of VoWLAN deal, it can receive calls from anywhere, but can only make calls to hospital numbers- hence the call from a random hospital land line. This SpectraLink also has a different number depending on what department she’s working- so I can’t really just call that number. The point is that she said the number in the message- SpinVox and my Nokia recognize those seven digits she said as a phone number. Now where I would normally be sandwiching a phone between my shoulder and my head, listening to the message for the third time in hopes that I catch the number this time to write it down on my hand with a Sharpie while careening across a four lane road, I’m simply highlighting the number and selecting “Call”. Cool. Simple as- and safe too. My wife thanks SpinVox once again.

Once Olivia and I are home, I hit up Whatleydude to tell him what he already knows- SpinVox is cool. Really cool. He tells me it gets cooler than that- not only does SpinVox allow you to handle spoken phone numbers in this manner, it also works with URLs and email addresses. Very cool. So I give it a shot- as you would expect, it works brilliantly. Even spelling a word in a SpinVox message is cool- spell a word, SpinVox works it out, just like this all in CAPS and spaced out - "S P I N V O X ". Do I have to say it? I will anyway- Cool.

If you want to find out more about how and why SpinVox is so damn cool- check out the newly redesigned SpinVox blog (Nice work, James :). You can see what James Whatley has been up to with the good work of spreading the word of SpinVox and just getting people to try it out. That’s the brilliance- try it and you get it. I got it, and I can’t thank SpinVox enough. More importantly, you can learn more about SpinVox and what it can do for you. Here's one particularly brilliant post that is well worth a read.

If you’re still not convinced- do this: SpinVox Memo. There’s a free trial until the end of March. Just sign up for an account (free, no strings attached, no credit card required, no reason not to do this right now) here . What happens is you’re given a phone number. Couldn’t be more simple- call the number, speak a message- it’s sent to you in an email. I think it’s safe to say that’s pretty damn cool too. I just started using this yesterday, and again- I’m absolutely hooked. It’s one more great way for me to keep it between the lanes on the road when I just have to write something down. Honey- thank SpinVox again. ;)

This isn't even all that SpinVox can do for you. There's a ton of other ways that they apply the genius of speech to text. Whether you want to get your text to Jaiku, facebook- any and all of those many, many social sites you're on- your blog- or maybe you want a text out to twenty of your best mates letting them know what pub you're on your way to- SpinVox has you covered... because they're cool . Pop on over to the blog or the SpinVox site and learn more about it.

Don't forget to snag your free account. Everything except voicemail is free until March 31st, so get on it!
