Up Close and Personal with Gravity and it’s Creator

    Posted in: Applications
      |  by: Micky

Nine months ago, a sole Symbian developer by the name of Jan Ole Suhr from Berlin, Germany, owner of www.mobileways.de started work on the very first dedicated twitter client for Symbian.

    Gravity

Within these nine months, I and a few others have been Beta testing the various versions before they became available to the public.  As soon as the first release was made public, it was an instant success.

Now, to this present day, Gravity is so much more than just a simple Twitter client for your Symbian powered device, its fast becoming the all-in-one must have Symbian application, now featuring pretty much everything a desktop version boasts, from facebook integration, Google Reader, multiple accounts, and the latest addition due to twitter adding lists to their service, Gravity now too features Twitter lists.

Check out the video above, and after the break where @janole talks use through the various levels of the UI of Gravity, and the latest addition of Twitter lists, and how to use them to your advantage. You will also find a full Overview of Gravity after the break.

Nokia Beta Labs Ovi Contacts Chat Client Updated

    Posted in: Nokia Beta Labs
      |  by: Micky

ocSince Nokia Beta Labs last update of Ovi Contacts, some issues were raised up in the Beta Labs forums, these have now been fixed, so here’s one more update: a new and better release of Ovi Contacts for S60 3rd Edition FP2 and S60 5th Edition products.

To name a few from the long list of solved issues, here’s a few worth mentioning:

        * Send file was working only from chat view, not from the friend list before, but now it works
        * Issues with Cyrilic and Scandinavian letters were fixed (you may have seen these as broken letters in the friend list)
        * E-mail field in ‘My profile’ didn’t accept “-” character is fixed, as reported by deekay304 in the forum
        * Corrupted pics in personal and friends profile are fixed, as reported by lebb53 in the forum

Also something that was highly requested by many Spanish speaking Beta Labs readers, was that we should put the download up to Beta Labs in a way that it contains all languages supported. Now it should. Download options are available here. More details after the break.

Nokia Image Space update: a mobile client with trial Augmented Reality

    Posted in: Applications
      |  by: Micky

isYesterday, the Nokia Beta Labs team included to Image Space Beta Labs page an experimental Image Space Mobile browsing client. With it, you can view the Image Space content around you in Augmented Reality.

Also, you can browse the content with your mobile device, similarly as you do with the IS Browser on a computer. You can view and comment the content of other users as well.

If you want to try out, you need to download and install Qt 4.6 and Nokia Image Space Mobile to your N97 mini or other S60 5.0 compass device. You can easily create content for this Augmented Reality application by simply taking a photo with IS Capture on and posting it to Flickr for your contacts or general public.

2009-02-01_1322The application generates some traffic, so you may want to make sure you have a flat rate data plan.

Please try it out, and let the Beta Labs team know how they can improve this app further, as well as the whole Image Space concept.

Nokia Beta Labs Introduce Nokia Image Space: a new view to photos

    Posted in: Nokia Beta Labs
      |  by: Micky

Nokia Beta Labs have just this minute announced a brand new service.  Nokia Image Space.  You may of seen this service shown off sometime ago here.  If you have Flickr account and a supported Nokia phone, you can get your content contextualized easily. Apart from geotagging from GPS, the photos will have full orientation information in the metadata. Checkout the video demo below to get an idea what this new service can do for you. You can head over to the actual Image Space site by following this url imagespace.nokia.com/beta

This allows spatial browsing of photos. Photos from different Image Space users are contextually linked between each other. This creates a better understanding of the place you are browsing. It is a solution for showing a new view to your photos, as well as to those from your friends and other people.

Please have a look at the Beta Labs page for further information. There are still some rough edges, and they would like you to let them know about those.

    Firmware Updates – V35.0.02 (N95-1) and V35.0.01 (N95-2).

    Posted in: Symbian
      |  by: Micky

n95Quick heads up to let you know, according to Nokialino.it there are some new firmware updates available for the N95-1, and N95-2 handsets, amazing that support is still incoming for these geat Nokia handsets.  Our member 93tid has confirmed, and discovered there are also firmware updates for some product codes of the N95-3, and N95-4 models too.

For a full list of product codes these new firmwares are available for, please checkout this thread within our Nokiausers forums.

N95-2The N95 models do not have UDP, so please ensure you back everything up prior to updating your firmware.  Nokia Software Updater is also the only way to update the N95 firmware, as there is no FOTA for N95 handsets either.

No change log is available at this moment in time, but as soon as one becomes available, I will be sure to add it here.

If you do update your N95, please be sure to let us know what changes you notice within our forums.  Thanks.!

Nokia N97 Software Update – Memory Reorganiser 1.0

    Posted in: Symbian
      |  by: Micky

Just a quick update to let all you N97 owners know, that if you check your Software Update Application you will find a new update available called Memory Reorganiser; which when selected, downloaded, and installed will place an launchable application in your application folder.

Once you launch this, it will take a little while to optimise your N97 memory, and once done will prompt you saying it will self remove.

Some N97 owners are reporting up to 6MB gains after carrying out this small performance tweet. Myself, having just carried this out on my N97 only gained 2MB free phone memory. NokiaMobileBlog are reporting RAM improvements too.

Let us know how you get on with this with your N97. How much phone memory did it free up on your N97? Is this all a little too late do you think for the N97? Or are you happy to see Nokia releasing these kind of updates?

Afterall, the hardware in the N97 is undoubtibly underpowered for such a device. If only Nokia installed twice the amount of phone memory, doubled the amount RAM, and gave the N97 a more powerful processor, Nokia, a year on would not have to keep spending time and money trying to fix their mistakes in the first place.

Thanks to NokiaMobileBlog for the heads up on this update via twitter.
