Nokia has released its’ own Instant Messaging application which is available to download via the Ovi Store after months of beta testing over at the Nokia Beta Labs. The app is due to be pre-installed with all new Nokia mobile phones and is set to rival Apple’s iMessage system and Blackberry’s rather annoying BBM (Blackberry Messenger).

What is Nokia IM?

Nokia Instant Messenger is an application that allows you to send messages to other Nokia users, along with people who are logged in to Ovi Mail, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MySpace IM and Google Talk – pretty impressive huh?

Noka will be releasing a number of handsets over the summer period which includes the likes of the Nokia X7 and Nokia E6, of which will come pre-installed with Symbian^3′s latest version called Anna. The phones will also, obviously, include the Nokia IM application.

The E6 will come packed with a competitive 8 megapixel camera and a dual LED flash along with an impressive 8GB of built-in sotrage. The X7 will be more of an entertainment eccentric device that comes pre-installed with Fire HD and Asphalt 5 HD, a cool bonus for any would-be E6 or X7 owners.

A couple of new applications I have been rocking recently on my Nokia devices are well worth checking out.  The first application is called “Borg” and is a very well done facebook client with a pleasing UI, and smooth User Experience.

Borg - Facebook client , no server proxy calls, place and checkin integrated with Ovimap, photo and video upload, browse news feed, wall, friends, groups, events , messages, public pages and posts, more on the way. (version 1.1 still in beta and free). You can download Borg from Ovi Store here, or should we say, Nokia Store?

Next up, the popular News reader application for CNN has arrived on Symbian devices via Ovi Store too, and this is well worth checking out too.

To find out more on the CNN client, head across to Ovi Daily App where its covered in detail.  My early impressions on both of these apps are that, Borg is a superb facebook alternative app for your Nokia, whilst the CNN app, although functional, is not quite as polished as it could be when compared to CNN on other platforms.

Thanks to The Handheld Blog for spotting this new twitter app with a difference.  Different Tag is certainly a twitter client with a difference, difference in the way of user experience where a rotating dial selection is used to tweet, and read tweets.

The Ovi Blog announced yesterday that the Ovi Chat client for Symbian^3 devices had been completed, and added to the Ovi Store for all, and that it includes the popular MSN Messenger to boot!

Aside from the staple features that you can expect from a chat application, which were delivered in the Chat 2.5 application and also recently made available (see the blog post on that application·here), also added is an exclusive new feature and updated look and feel that has been specifically tailored for these new phones.

Similar to the Symbian^3 social experience, it’s integrated chat into your phone’s Contacts application.

Now, when browsing through your contacts, you can see if your friend is available to chat and launch straight into a conversation with them in just a few taps. Sending an IM to your friend is now even quicker and more seamless.

Whilst reading my RSS feeds yesterday I stumbled upon a great discovery thanks to Jay of MyNokiaBlog where he came across the very first Qt facebook application for Symbian^3 and Maemo over at Kasvopus, which is Finnish for facebook.

Kasvopus requires Qt 4.7.2 AND Qt WebKit 4.7.2 to run. You can download this here.

This Qt client is very simple, and is currently still in Beta stage, but very worthy of trying out. Touch news entry to open it in details view where you can see the latest comments. You can easily “like” or comment the status entry or if it contains a link you can open that in device browser with a single click.

This client will soon be available via Ovi Store, and will also be available for MeeGo devices very soon.

A brand new type of Internet is now available via Ovi Store called Layar, bringing an Impactful Augmented Reality in Your Everyday Life. Check out the video demo below posted by Layarmobile on Youtube.

Owners of S60 and Symbian^3 devices with GPS, front-facing camera, compass and accelerometer can now rediscover the world around them using Layar’s augmented reality browser.

Jason Black over on Forum Nokia Ovi Daily App has posted up a great review, and music solution for your Nokia device. Its called Aupeo!
