Nokia Push Skater & Balloon Prime Focus N8 Videos

    Posted in: Nokia N8
      |  by: Micky

Prime Focus has completed post production on two new viral videos for the Nokia ‘Push‘ campaign. Both videos feature protagonists engaging in otherworldly experiences to promote the malleable software and hardware of the new Nokia N8 phone.

‘Skater’ features a skateboarder speeding down a suburban street and pays homage to classic 1980s video games like Paperboy and Super Mario Bros, whilst ‘Balloon’ follows the release of a cluster of balloons from a pop-art sculpture, the moment captured by a phone as it floats high in the air.

Enjoy! Oh, and just to let you know, Push has their final eight films to show off in the coming months, so be sure to stay tuned for those, as we will exclusively be covering these for you all.

The virals were created by Pulse for Hyper, and were post produced at Prime Focus by Belinda Grew.

Not long ago, Nokia Conversations, Nokia’s Official Blog asked their readers, “What new Colour N8 Would you like to see?” Well with the N8 already available in five stunning colours to suit every need, there was one colour that won their poll, and that was Pink.

    N8-Pink-1-big

The Pink N8 has now been announced, and already twitter is alive with people wanting the Pretty in Pink N8, mostly of course the female variety. You have to admit though, the N8 in Pink does look damn sexy, and of course, you don’t have to be female to own one.  As to the availability of the Pink N8, stay tuned, and we will keep you posted.

There’s even the Little Pink Diva Theme for adding some colour into your menus and a great Pink Neon Clock too when it comes to making sure you’re not late for your next meeting, and the ELLE fashion app keeps you up-to-date with the latest fashion, beauty and celebrity news. I can certainly see this N8 being popular with celebrities too.!

Experience Dubai’s Jewels Through The Nokia N8 Inc F1

      |  by: Micky

Nokiausers forum member nirave recently took a trip to the Middle East, Dubai, where he took along his new Orange Nokia N8, and started putting that 12MP shooter to the test by grabbing some amazing photos.  First up were some stunning shots from the plane as he neared Dubai’s airport, one of which is quite breath taking, looking at the edge of the Earth.

1Nirave has published many photos over at his blog Mobile-Users.net, which include the views from his apartment, looking across a manmade Green Lake which resides between several tall skyscrapers.

N8 Arrives, Gets Unboxed, Charged Ready to Test

    Posted in: Nokia N8
      |  by: Micky

n8greyYes, thats right, I received a dark grey Nokia N8 yesterday morning from Nokia to Review, and have already been asked by several of my followers on twitter when will my review be up on here, and NokiaDNA.com.  My answer to those questions were in a few weeks.  Why a few weeks?  Because I want to live with the N8 day to day for a good period of time, but at the same, document everything, the good, and the bad.

I will also be taking on our Nokiausers Questions, suggestions, and various tests they want me to checkout on the N8, just like I did back when I had the N900 in for Review, which went really well, and kept me quite busy.

You can checkout the N900 testing thread here, but to check what our Nokiausers members have asked me so far to test on the N8, head across to our forums here, and if you don’t see the question, or test mentioned within that thread, please fire away, and ask.  I will be carrying out the various suggestions in order from page 1, working my way through each, and every post until I have completed everything members have asked of me.

I shot a quick video unboxing when the N8 arrived, nothing spectacular, nice, and simple, with a breakdown of bundled accessories. As said, if you have anything to ask about the N8, or its functionalities, be it you want me to try out something on it to see if it works ok, don’t hesitate to head across to our Nokiausers forums here, and ask away. If you are not a registered member, don’t fear, its free to register, and only takes a minute, we have a very friendly community here on Nokiausers, so don’t be a stranger, get stuck in, and involved in the discussions.

Exclusive N8 Overview & An Introduction

    Posted in: Nokia N8
      |  by: Micky

a1Today I have something a little special for you all, and also wish to introduce to you all a very good friend of mine, Richard Dorman, aka @Sheridan01 on twitter.  Richard, a Nokia Enthusiast is the guy behind OnlyFoolsMobiles which is like no other mobile blog out there, as this blogs hosts, are two boys named Del, and Rodney.

So what’s different I hear you ask, well, these two boys are in actual fact, Main Coon weCats. OnlyFoolsMobiles started out as a bit of fun for Richard, and his boys, but it has quickly gained quite a following, with many people enjoying the different aspect of the blog, with Reviews being Purviews, and a rating system based on a “Paws up”, or Paws down”. I kid you not.!  Its all great fun. Take a look a some of their recent N8 Games Purviews here, and here.

Anyhow, Richard has some connections at Nokia, and with that comes some perks, yes, Richard has had an N8 device for quite a while now, since June in fact. Knowing this, and actually meeting up with Richard in Helsinki a short while ago I got some hands on with the N8, and I was impressed.

    01

Having seen Richard testing various things out on his N8 online, via twitter, and other Social Media outlets such as Youtube, and flickr, not to mention his own Orange N8 that he recently collected from Helsinki Flagship store, who better to ask for an N8 Overview that Richard himself? After all, as said, he has not only had an N8 device four months before they started shipping, he has also gained quite a bit of experience with Symbian^3 on the N8 also.

So without further a do, I hand the remainder of this article to Richard, who will give you some insights to his N8 experiences, good, and bad of course. Over to you Richard…

    Finlands Tabloid iltalehti.fi – N8 Pros & Cons

    Posted in: Nokia N8
      |  by: Micky

n8PAULI Reinikainen from iltalehti.fi recently had their hands on an N8 for six days, after which they put together an N8 Pros & Cons post over at their website.  It’s in Finnish, but Google Translates it quite well.  A few quotes from their post I have included below, but don’t worry if they appear negative, Pauli’s final score out of 10 for the N8 was an 8.!

    First Impressions

The first impression is of high quality. Phone’s design is best for Nokia in a long time. The device sits in your hand well, it is thin enough too. The only downside is the lack of a camera lens protection. Otherwise, the styling is fresh, bold and different. Color options are successful, especially in silver.

    Some Observations

Sim card and memory card doors requires finger acrobatics, especially if you have no fingernails.

Touchscreen is not the same as Apple’s iPhone. It corresponds to a button and finger movements, sometimes too slowly.

Keystrokes in the range of menus have an annoying lag. If accidentally hitting a button/option twice, phone gets confused, resulting in pause.

    Battery

Nokia has said increased performance of battery life. Trial basis, this seems to be true. Six-day test period, the battery was loaded twice. It’s a good smartphone performance.

For the full Pros and Cons N8 post, head across to Pauli’s iltalehti post here.

The iFixit Nokia N8 Teardown – Replacing Battery a Doddle

    Posted in: Nokia N8
      |  by: Micky

2As usual with any new device which hits the market, you can be sure the ifixit team will get one, and take it apart, but not only that, they do document their teardowns very well, with plenty of good quality close up photos, and instuctions should you wish to do the same for fun, or for that DIY out of warranty repair.

In their teardown they show just how simple it is to remove the N8′s battery, which Nokia claim is not user replaceable, but in actual fact it is, however, we are not sure at this point if removing the battery voids your N8 warranty or not.

How to take Professional Photos using the Nokia N8

    Posted in: Nokia N8
      |  by: Micky

If you have an N8, or have pre-ordered one, the one thing you probably want to take full advantage of is the camera, and how to snap that perfect photo.  You may remember seeing the below photo before, either at Nokia World, being shown off by Damian Dinning in the N8 Printed Photo Album, promoting the N8′s Photography capabilities, or elsewhere online.

Ari Partinen is a design engineer at Nokia who recently participated in this photo shoot for the Nokia N8, and has put together a great post over at NSeries blog on how to achieve professional photos on the N8, just like the sample below. (Click on photo for full size).

    1

Ari said, For me this was a treat because I have worked with the device for the past two years, perfecting the image quality and field testing the device to its limits. Another reason I was so stoked to join the photo shoot was that, prior to joining the Nokia camera team, I worked as a freelance photographer and I’m still involved heavily in photography.

For this reason, I was massively interested to see what we could achieve with a mobile device. Things were especially interesting since the job description from the main man behind the shoot, Damian, was to deliver “professional” looking shots with no post processing allowed.

For Ari’s complete guide, head across to the NSeries blog here where you will find some invaluable information, and stunning photo samples of the above photo from the N8.

The UK Telegraph Review The Nokia N8 – Best Nokia Touchscreen Device

    Posted in: Nokia N8
      |  by: Micky

n8Going through my RSS feed this morning, I was curious to see which big named sites were continuing to bash Nokia’s latest offering, the N8, and was pleasantly surprised to see The Telegraph in the Uk one site I trust giving a fair, and unbiased review of the N8 12MP Shooter.  They even boasted that its the best Touchscreen Mobile Phone from the Finnish Giant to date, and they gave the N8 4 out of 5 star rating!

The new Nokia N8 is the Finnish company’s first successful touchscreen phone. It’s neat, good-looking and has a battery that will take you safely from one day to the next. You’ll probably still want to recharge it overnight just to be sure, but our tests saw it last happily into a second and even a third day between charges.

Plus, it’s a Nokia, and has a hugely familiar operating system that’s intuitive and simple, so there’s only the gentlest new-interface learning curve.

In fact, the system has been greatly improved from earlier touchscreen versions so it’s less erratic and more accessible. The phone’s anodised aluminium casing is solid and businesslike, especially in the dark grey and silver colour options (lime green not so much). To checkout what else The Telegraph had to say on the N8, head across to their site here.

Continuous Auto Focus Video Functionality Come to the N8 via HyperX Mod

    Posted in: Nokia N8
      |  by: Micky

Just yesterday I wrote over at my personal Nokia blog NokiaDNA, letting my subscribers know all about an N8 hack done by HyperX, a new N8 owner who likes to hack, and tinker with his devices, this hack which boosted the N8 video capabilities to 30 frames per second, with smooth fast panning possible without any lag or judder whatsoever.

Checkout the video over at NokiaDNA where you can download the 11mb video file, and check the quality for yourselves. I used VLC player, and Quicktime, and in both, video was amazingly impressive!

HyperX has now pushed the N8 boundaries even further, creating a modification which now allows Auto Continuous Focus during video recording.

Checkout the video demo below.  Impressive! To keep an eye on what HyperX may do next with his N8, bookmark his site here.

Heads up to TheHandheldBlog once again for this breaking News/N8 goodness.
