Default N810

Quick question I wanted to throw out there about the N810. It seems like a fabulous device and hoping there are a couple gurus out there on it. My frist question would be can you run a different operating system on it such as windows? I know what you're going to say so don't say it, this is just a concept to try to replace a ruggedized PDA that we use at work and it would need to be running a piece of software written to run on windows. Any ideas of the possibilities?

There is no realistic way to run XP (or any form of Windows) without emulation. This (to my knowledge) is not something that is done, however you can remote desktop to a Windows machine fairly easily. If you just need to run one particular application this may be sufficient, as you can easily utilized your N95's data connection.

Brandon thanks for the reply but unfortunately it would be a stand alone 'field' device so there would eb no desktop to connect to. We're just looking at ways to replace an outdated PDA and the 810 is a sweet device. I noticed it's listed as running OS2008 (a linux variant?) and not symbian, am I correct in this?

Yeah- that's correct. It's running a version of Linux called Maemo, based on debian.

The software you have, has it been ported to Palm OS by chance? There is an emulator for this.

Recently reviewed the N810 from WOM, and couldn't get to grips with it.
