Pocket Toshi

Pocket Toshi is a prototype of a music application for the Accelerometer enabled Symbian S60 phones like Nokia N95 developed by Teemu Korpilahti and Jenna Sutela. It displays chimes/piano on the right side of the screen and percussions on the left. Also an additional gesture sound by Marcus Malka can be found when rapidly moving the phone in the vertical direction.

Pocket Toshi is played with a round shaped cursor detecting motion based on values from the phone's accelerometer. Pocket Toshi was made with Python at Rapid Mobile Application Prototyping workshop by Jurgen Scheible

Ok so if you sit in a room full of people this can be fun and VERY annoying, if you want it to be. HOWEVER there is an issue with this install. Like we've seen before (or at least I've seen) when installing some programs Python gets messed up. It happens here to but in a different way, Pocket Toshi requires and installs with it Python 1.4.3.2 and the current is 1.4.3.3 so if you have the latest installed it will be overwritten. It does not however over write the script shell but it stops that from working becuase of the mixed versions. It appears however that Pocket Toshi HAS to have 1.4.3.2 installed and does not qork with the current Python.

Yes it's probably the most unuseful app ever :)

Sorry to hear about the install problem with 1.4.3.3

The thing is, that this app was just made as a proof of concept, it's not meant to be a finalized product.

I'm completely new to mobile application development, in fact this was the first thing I've done, so the code is clumsy. It propably wouldn't be too much work to make it run with 1.4.3.3 Only problem with that is that I don't have a N95 phone of my own, so further development is stuck for now.

Anyways it's nice to see how many people have been interested enough to actually try it out.

Cheers,
-T

Well if I may give a word of advice from a software developer, don't force the install of python and the add-on modules with it as that seems to be your biggest issue and will mess you up everytime a new Python comes out. Just let the install install the program and not all the extras and you should be fine. Either way it's a nice program especially as a first try. Keep up the good work
