Question Solar Chargers - What's on the market?

I have been considering ways to charge my N95 while out and about and using GPS etc.

I have searched here and found a few threads relating to the subject but none of which have provided a definitive answer as to if there is a good solar charger on the market worth purchasing.

There are plenty of cheap items on ebay but I'd imagine a decent charger will cost a bit more!

it's not really efficient anyway. i guess the technology isn't really that viable yet. you're better off with a proporta usb charger
Proporta - USB Mobile Device Charger (USB Rechargeable Battery)

proporta also has a solar charger should you want to have a look. but i saw a note that the product is design to charge devices that requires not more than 500mAh

I have seen the Proporta Ted Baker but was thinking as solar technology was in place to keep 12V car batteries charged surely they could manage mobile phones!

The Ted Baker is an option!

it depends on the size of the solar panels. smaller ones would definitely take in less light, which would result in lesser or longer energy conversion.

Buy a solar powered car ... in China

Believe it or not, a solar powered car is on sale in China. Shown at the 29th (!) Zhejiang International Bicycles and Electric-powered Cars Exhibition in Hangzhou, eastern China, the vehicle is a cheap and dirty clean way to get around. According to an engineer, the solar cells can absorb 95 percent of the solar energy coming in, although they can only convert 14 to 17 percent into electricity to recharge the batteries. Recharging time? About 30 hours to get the maximum 150 km (90 mi) range. However, if you're in a hurry, you can always get energy for 5 km in just one hour. Around 10 units have been produced thus far by Zhejiang 001 Group. The sticker price is quite a bargain for a solar NEV: 38,000 yuan (US$5,560). If you think this car is familiar, that's because it looks like a Chery QQ (which is itself a Daewoo Matiz clone) that was made into an electric model by DianZi.
unless of course you want that solar panel mounted on your phone......

I use and would recommend the Solio Classic charger.

More info here:
Solar Charger, Travel Charger, Solio Charger

Needs quite a few hours of sunlight - rather than daylight - to charge, but you have the added bonus of being able to charge the Solio via USB.

There are loads of tips that come with the unit and also buy seprately, so that you can charge most types of mobile devices, including phones, iPod, Nintendo DS Lite etc.
