Questions about my battery performance

Hey guys, the battery holds its charge for 1.5days at best! (No gps- just GSM calling/receiving calls)

Was just wondering though, I've notice a pattern where the battery bars don't go down by one, they go down by 2, then again 2, then 1 then OFF.

E.g After a full charge. When I've been on a call for like an hour -continuously, then play some games for 30 mins. It still shows 7 full bars.
But like an hour later it suddenly goes down by 2, making it 5 bars.
then it repeats itself again to 3.
Then when I'm down to 3 bars. This is when the battery meter seems accurate like all my other phones, going down by one depending on usage.

It doesn't show consistent |battery information : usage|
Does this happen to you guys too? Does this mean that the battery needs replacing?

Thanks

for example, I had full 7 bars last night before I went to bed.
Had no applications on. This morning was on 3bars.
I think 7bars to 4 bars means nothing, and goes down whatever i do.
Does that mean the battery charge now only holds half of what it used to?

Would you advise on me getting a new battery?

I'm not sure how long you have had your phone, but here is something I experienced. When I first got my phone in Nov. of last year, my battery life was quite acceptable as I could run the phone for 3 or 4 days on a charge. Over time, this seemed to become less and less. I had installed a lot of software to try out and found many of the packages were seldom used. After experiencing a couple of problems I decided to clean things up. I did a backup, factorry reset, and re-installed only the apps that I felt I really used. My battery life is BACK! It am again getting 3-4 days on a fresh charge. YMMV
