    Size of picture?

    Just wondering why some of my pictures size is over 1 mb but some of the is under 1 mb. What makes the pictures bigger? I´ve my quality on 5 mpix.

    Just depends on how much information the camera is recording. Some pictures will be a few hundred kb while some will be a couple megs. Just depends on what you are photographing.

    I've never had a picture greater than 1Mb, in fact mine average 1/2 Mb!!

    It's because of the way jpeg compression works.

    It doesn't store the information for each pixel. It works on the differences between pixels. A completely one colour image will have a very small filesize, a very detailed image with lots of colour will have a relatively large filesize.

    The original version of this picture is 2.37MB. That's on the large side, but most of my outdoor pictures average about 1.5 to 2MB.

    Great photo!

    Sorry have no idea about the file size. Phones still in the box! Just reading up on here getting a heads up before I break her in! Just wanted to comment and say thats an awesome photo! Even small the image looks sharp! Is there a link to the original photo, would like to see how it looks not sized down.

    Actually, I don't have that one there, but there are a bunch of really good ones over there....
