Driverless webcam?
Does anyone know if there is a webcam application that will make use of the generic drivers in Windows or something that I could use in Linux? I am looking for something that doesn’t need an application installed on the PC.
I have seen the following apps but, correct me if I’m wrong, they all need something installed on the PC. 1) BTWebCamera 2) Mobiola Web Camera 3) wwigo Thanks! |

Id like something like that too.
The best I can come up with, is putting the files needed for the PC on the memory card/mass memory. That way, you can transfer them over to the PC via bluetooth or cable (which you need anyway to form the webcam connection). Not ideal, but the best solution at the moment. |

That’s what I was thinking as well but that doesn’t help me on the Linux side. I just hate having to install applications for this type of stuff, not that I won’t, I just like the minimalist approach.
I may see if I can just take the drivers and install them instead of the entire app. Maybe the software will work with Wine in Linux. If I get bored, I may give that a try also. |

I tried numerous ways to use the N95 as an acceptable webcam, albeit on a windows platform.
The one program I actually got to work, was slow as hell. I bought a £5 8MP webcam from Ebay. Arrived in 2 days, and is small as hell. So idea for transportation and permenant use. It's really not worth the hassle of getting the N95 to work. The battery drainage, the connection issues and the OS type of programs are useless.

SmartCam now works with Linux. I cannot check it as I do not have bluetooth on my laptop, so I have segmentation fault on Ubuntu, but the developer says it was tested on Hardy.
