receiving emails
hi everyone,
i have this wierd problem; perhaps ive done something wrong and you can help me ........... When im at home and connected to my home wlan i can receive and send emails no problem. But when im at work or on another wlan, i can receive but cant send any emails. What have i done wrong ? Help ! many thanx jfj |

This depends on your settings. I suspect the problem is down to you using your home ISP's SMTP server for sending email when on other networks. Most ISPs SMTP servers will only allow you to send emails from their own networks to help stop spam abuse.
When you move to another WLAN you are using another ISP who either block sending via other ISPs or your home ISP blocks you connecting from an external ISP. I hope that kind of makes sense... The solution is to find a SMTP host that will let you log in with a username and password to authenticate from any network, and to be safe use a non-standard port (eg 26). Alternatively you could change the phone's SMTP server settings to suit the local network each time you change WLAN networks. |

Thanks timo, but doesnt that mean that with a portable computer i'd have the same problem ?

Yes, if you use multiple connections on that computer then you'd have the same SMTP problems unless you use a host that you can authenticate with in some way before sending.
