Post SymSmb2 using AdHoc to connec to your local network

I'm using SymSmb v2.0 and seems to work very well using AdHoc.

Goal : Connect to any shared drive in my office and be able to browse files, copy and paste files using SymSmb v2.0.

Requirements : A desktop pc, I have 2 network lan connectivity, one wireless and one wired. The wireless is for my N95 to communicate with using adhoc and the wired for the internal network. Your asking why will I go for so much trouble, making adhoc and all when I can just connect to our corporate wireless router? The answer is, guess what, Nokia N95 does not provide WPA enterprise authentication LEAP-EAR, this is only supported in Nokia E series, I dont know if nokia has intentions in future updates.

This setup is very technical, of course if you have a seperate wireless hub, it will be much easier.

Wireless setup:
Network name : any name you like
Network type : Adhoc
Transfer rate : 54mbps 11a/g
Channel : 1 (2.412 GHz)
Authentication Mode : Open System
Encryption : 128 Bits
Input Methos : Hexadecimal
Key : *********** whatever password you have in mind
Key Index : 1

Wired setup:
The usual setup, as long as you can browse your network that will be ok.

Nokia N95 setup:
Go to menu>tools>settings>connection>Access points> create a new one
Connection name : any name you like
Data Bearer : Wireless Lan
WLan Netw. name : the name you provided in the wireless adhoc setup
Network status : Public
WLan netw. mode : Ad-Hoc
WLan security mode : WEP
WLan security settings
WEP key in use : #1
Authentication type : open
WEP key settings
WEP encryption : 128 bits
WEP key format : Hexadecimal
WEP key : the password you provided in the wireless adhoc setup
click back>options>Advance settings
IPv4 settings - all settings here relates to your network, if your familiar with ip address and other network, this should be easy. Just try to locate an ipaddress in your network that is not being used, the subnet, default gateway and dns should be the same as your internal network settings.

ex.
IP address : 192.168.5.240
Subnet : 255.255.255.0
default gateway : 192.168.5.1
DNS Primary : 192.168.5.1

No need to place anything in IPv6 settings
Adhoc Channel : 1 (should be the same channel you configured in desktop wireless adhoc setup)

Once this is configured, in your desktop PC, you need to BRIDGE the wired and the wireless lan! This is to allow N95 to be part of the corporate network!!! Once connected your not just limited to browse and copy files, if your corporate network supports internet and email, local websites, ftp servers, you should be able to connect any enterprise services you have, even internet. Good luck!!!

If you have questions, just post some, I might be able to help...

Talking

Well I almost forgot, once you made the setup configure SymSmb 2. Setup the account to be used, the connection, shared folder and network drives to connect to.

Rico_alejandro, please message me, I have a questions.
I did connection between SymSMB and computer via Ad-Hoc long time ago,
its not a problem. Problem is how to have at the same time Internet on the phone. I read your suggestion about configuration and bridging - still don't have Internet on the phone. And SymSMB connection after bridging is suffering as well as ping time instead of 4 ms become 3000 ms ...

Loads of thanks Rico! I've been hoping someone could help us out with this.
I have been struggling with this ever since the N95 was released.

However, after reading your instructions, I have still not been able to successfully establish an Ad-hoc connection between my laptop and my N95.

I'm pretty handy with computers, but my experience with networks is limited.
So could you please steer me right?

This is what I want to do:
Using SymSMB 2.0 I want to be able to wireless transfer files between my N95 and my laptop.

While trying to follow along with your instructions I've run into some troubles:

1. When setting up the wireless Ad-hoc connection where can I find the settings for:
Transfer rate : 54mbps 11a/g
Channel : 1 (2.412 GHz)
Encryption : 128 Bits
Input Methods : Hexadecimal

1b: Will I need encryption for the connection to work or is it only for increased safety?

2: "Just try to locate an ipaddress in your network that is not being used"
-Can you please explain how to go about to do this for someone who is not so network-savvy?

3. In the IPv4 settings, can I leave DNS to "Automatic"?

I'll probably come up with a few more questions but let's start with these =)
Really grateful for your guidance!

May be you could try instruction for Ad-Hoc connection from Telexy, just click on link below.
Ad hoc for SymSMB

In many places this instruction looks similar to manual from Rico_Alejandro,
but it doesnt cover issue with Intenet sharing over Ad-hoc.
Nonetheless you may have better luck with that.

All the best.
