What is Nokia Step Counter?
Ever wanted to how much you walk or run as you go about your daily life? The Nokia Step Counter not only counts your steps, it also determines the distance you have covered and your energy expenditure. You can even compare your activity levels on different days by looking up the summaries stored in a handy diary. ![]() Want to know how it all works? Your steps are measured by analyzing the output from an accelerometer in your S60 mobile device. All you have to do is carry your phone around with you whenever you move, for example in a pocket of your clothing, attached to a belt or your upper arm, or in a handbag worn over your shoulder. Nokia Step Counter just runs on the Nokia N95 8GB, N95 and the N82. Beta Labs: Nokia Step Counter Symbian World Nokia - Nokia Step Counter ![]() Nokia Beta Labs blog Step Counter

Awesome, I remember when the accelerometer first became available for use for non-camera apps, a pedometer was one of the things I wanted then...
Now my phone is an even more complete part of my health regime, cool (nice 6.2km run with a mate today on Sportstracker, I love it!). Anyone know of any good calorie counting apps? The sports tracker does give a steps count, but not sure how it arrives at it (estimated Vs average gait, or using accelerometer?). Thing is you wouldn't want the Sports tracker running all the time with GPS related battery consumption, so this still serves a purpose. I wonder how battery consumption is on this one? I would have thought it was heavy, like the tongren apps before he put in sensors to look for activity.

I installed this on my wifes phone this morning and it works great, she did have the activity monitor running before but the only thing she was interesed in was the step counter. Seems this step counter has a few more features i.e step length-time stamps(start and finsh)-target steps per day. Seems to run smoothly ATM without much battery drain.

Really? Without much battery drain? Seems too good to be true for an accelerometer app that runs fulltime... Good to hear.

I have had this for a couple of months (right now i don`t even have a n95, it`s on service =S . ) but i swear it was called activity monitor ?
Annyways the battery draining is not that bad, i used it all day at work (8-9 hr) and when i came home it was usually just 1 bar gone. this was on v.20 Great way to keep track of which day you walk the most and such..
