Any experts on pocketdivxencoder and smart media player?

I was having problems with movies converted with the bundled software (video would freeze after 37 minutes but the sound would continue), so I came across pocketdivxencoder and smart media player on the forum, I've downloaded and installed them and they are working a treat. I just cant seem to get the resolution right though. The maximum I seem to be able to get is 220x176, any time I increase the size and click apply It still reverts to 220x176. Now I've been watching movies on the smartplayer with the full screen zoom off as it apears to stretch the picture too much and leads to loss of quality. Even with the full screen zoom on there are still black bars on both left and right sides. Anybody steer me to a tutorial or throw some advice my way?

Spyda, in your screen shot you have the resolution at 320x240, the maximum I can get is 220x176 - It will allow me to change it when I click "change", but it always goes back 220x176 when I click "apply", am I missing something here?

Well I have just checked a recording I converted and although the settings were as indicated when I made the conversion, the resulting output was at 320 x 180 so I can only assume that pocketdivxencoder made an adjustment to maintain the aspect ratio of the video file.

I guess therefore the output depends on the source video file?

Have you experimented with more than one video file?

I did try a few movies, all the same. I have just noticed in your screenshot you chose "PDA" as your device, I've been choosing "SmartPhone", maybe this is whats causing the problem?

Possibly so, yes.

I tried various options before posting what I deemed to be the most appropriate settings for conversion for playback on the N95 and as you have pointed out, choosing the device as PDA is the first step.

All working now then?

Yeah, its working well - just need to fiddle with the settings to get it just right. I'm going to try encode it for a palm tungsten to get a better resolution so I dont have to select full-screen zoom. I did get a message today asking me to purchase the software for Smart Player, this is obviously only a trial version. Any free players out there for the N95?
