I've been looking around, and it seems like I might be able to rewrite this guide to make it a bit simpler. The latest version of Audacity (Beta 1.3.5) has much-improved MP3 export, and I found CDex, a completely free, open-source CD ripper that looks a lot better than FreeRIP.

IJM, that software looks ace, but it's not free :( Audacity can do the same thing by recording the "Wave Out Mix" or "Stereo Mix", but that's hidden by default in Windows Vista.

Indeed it can, but don't rely on this in your tutorial as the ability to record the Soundcard output (Stereo Mix) is a feature of the sound card hardware and not Audacity.

My sound card on this PC doesn't support it. My kids PC upstairs does.

It's Broke?

Did you know that your Nokia comes with a 2 year warranty? Did you know that Carphone Warehouse are Nokia Repair Centres?
Damage from normal use: wobbly slider, broken keys, quiet earpiece etc... will be repaired for free, and usually the same day if you take it to a big store!

What OS you running Gav? In my experience even the most basic onboard sound chips usually do WaveOut mix in some form...

XP/Ubuntu, same issue in both OS's.

You're absolutely right though. I purhcased a seperate sound card with this PC and it requires a paid firmware upgrade to activate the additional features! - I moaned at Dell about it, because the £300 PC I got form my Old Man has it on board as you say, but I just refuse to pay extra for it.

Unfortunately not: "Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"

No worries though, I get all my Tunes from Napster these days, so I don't really miss the ability to record streams off t'internet anyway.

Smile Awesome

Thank you, thank you, I bought the HTC touch pro last week and have been trying to figure out how to convert my cd's into ringtones. I refuse to pay for music I own. This step by step has done it. I definitely appreciate it.
