Nokia E75 with me for a week

I know others have picked up an E75, but I have one in my hands for a week to review. If anyone wants to know anything about the handset, drop a Q here and I'll check it out for as long as I have the handset.

I tried to play with one in the London flagship store this afternoon - I launched Maps and got the "There is not enough available memory to run this application, etc." error message. I put it back and walked out......

Maps seems to be working ok here... I'm quite impressed with how quick I got a lock on. One thing to keep in mind with demo handsets in shops is there's no telling who's had their hands on the phone, what apps are left running on it, how much abuse it's had. Phones in our store are always being messed about with.

I'm hoping that was just an odd, and rare, error. The E75 is supposed to have over 90MB of free memory on boot! At least, that's what the preview over at Mobile Review stated.

Jay, can you install either Handy Taskman or JBTaskman on the E75 and see how much free memory it really has?

Hi Jay

A quick question from new user - did you have any trouble with the ringing function? Pretty fundamental on a phone :)

On my phone, when set to Ringing, it behaves like Ring Once. Ascending works ok, but can't get Ringing to work. Wondered if you saw that too.

As for Maps, no problem here, and yep, had about 80MB free on the phone at purchase.

I solved my problem - phone giving very brief ring tone and then silence on incoming call: I turned off the tap and turn sensors for "silence call". I guess the vibration was setting them off. Works fine now. I need to investigate exactly which setting causes it - I am guessing 'tap to silence' with vibration on.

have my E75 for just under a week and still trying to get used to the full keyboard thing. it is quite a heavy device though.

wish it had a bigger screen - it makes reading a document on the go abit difficult.

noticed the other day when mum sent me an email - it does not support chinese characters.... is there a way to fix that?

You need to reinstall firmware for a different product code, probably one of the Far East ones which would support Chinese. This would void your warranty. Full details about the process also known as debranding (or in your case, rebranding) here - **** Debranding explained.****

Possible product codes which would probably support Chinese:

0567165: RM-412 Hongkong Black/Silver ALS ON
0573659: RM-412 Hongkong Copper/Yellow ALS ON
0573081: RM-412 Hongkong Red ALS ON
0567163: RM-412 Taiwan Black/Silver
0573658: RM-412 Taiwan Copper/Yellow
