Thumbs up E72 is the most interesting device on the market today

Stefan from intomobile had some real interesting news of the E72

Nokia E72 preview in Russian hits the net: Most interesting device on the market, will ship in August

Eldar Murtazin, the Editor in Chief of Mobile-Review, has managed to get his hands on yet another mobile phone before everyone else, this time the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) E72. As a direct follow up to the E71, which has been wildly successful with over 5 million units sold thus far, the E72 brings to the table an improved 5 megapixel camera, 600 MHz processor, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and runs on the latest non-touch version of S60, version 3.2. Eldar has nothing but praise for the device in his preview, saying: “this is the most interesting devices on the market today, all the rest have to some extent a compromise.”

Ok, so why exactly does the E series division listen to customers and produce such good looking quality handsets?

Why exactly can't the N series division do that?

That E72 is an upgrade dream.

Better camera, faster processor, more batterylife, 3.5mm jack with better sound...you can't get much better than that.

It's running FP2, also has the compass function added, phone memory (not RAM!) increased from 110 to 256MB, comes with full version of QuickOffice, optical joystick (D-Pad), improved VOIP client v3.0.

Has a slightly modified E63 keyboard instead of the original E71, seems to be a matter of getting used to it and not an issue.

I know, it also has the rubber flaps covering the USB/microSD slot changed to plastic that sit level with the case.

I didn't want to list all the improvements, but just point out that for some reason, they can and do listen to customers. And produce **** good handsets, this looks quality all the way.

I'm so annoyed how one half of Nokia can get it right, and the other so so wrong.

Simple answer, gleaned from what I've read and seen so far...

N-97... The work of DESIGNERS... Listen to the satisfying sound of it opening & closing... Let's re-position the standard location of the space-bar... Displaying widgets (fully-working or not) would be a neat idea... We need a slim casing, therefore we can't possibly use the tried and trusted 5800 speakers, tinny-sounding ones will do, as long as it doesn't spoil the sleek lines, etc.

E-72... The work of ENGINEERS... You want a 5mp camera? - You got it! You need to use VOIP? No problem, it's in there. You'd like a compass?, Full QuickOffice? A D-pad? ... No sweat, we can do all that....

Oh heck, it looks neat and functional now, not super-stylish with gimmicks... Where did we go wrong! ;)

I have also wonder why almost always the E-serie get it so right and
belive spOOK have a good point there.

And the real interesting part are when compare the price to the N-serie or other
busniess phones from the rest , then the E72 blow away all when the price only be
350 Euro before taxes and subs simfree.

I was playing with an E75 a couple of weeks ago, right after I had checked out the N97 in the store and have to say that the physical keyboard on it is just wonderful to use, I almost got a tear in my eye, it was soooo good after the crappy fiddly contraption on the N97. I might be seriously tempted by something like that in future if it gets the E72 treatment re camera and music.

Is the E75 keyboard like the new surge ? to me it sounds like the Engadget boys
be in heaven when they talk about the Surge keyboard .>

We'll just go ahead and say it: the Surge's keyboard is the best QWERTY board we've ever used,
and considering just how long we've been pecking on those vertical iPhone and BlackBerry keyboards, that's saying something.

It took next to no time for us to fully adjust to the landscape layout, and within a few minutes of getting ourselves acclimated to the spacing,
we were in texting heaven.

The key travel is perfect, the spacing is utopian and unlike the XPERIA X1, the top row isn't encroaching too heavily on the top of the display.

It's one of the first mobile keyboards that we've really felt comfortable using for long periods of time,
and we honestly started dreaming of things to say just so we had an excuse to text yet another member of our contact list.

If you're one of those folks who puts out 10,000+ texts per month, you owe it to yourself to try the Surge.

Hi guys.

Alright, I am absolutely dying to get my hands on the e72 now. I expect the camera will be very good, and other than that it's basically a boosted e71. I'm just loving it right now:) Except...

I am not crazy about the optical navikey. During browsing I suspect it will be quite nice, but in any other part of using the phone I am afraid that it might be more of a hassle, and risc of accidental keypressing/moving. Does anybody have a clue if it's at all possible to turn it off?

Question A Little Advice from across the Sea, Please

The specs on the E72 are impressive! I'm interested in buying an E52 in the US which is similar
but only 3.2 MP. The problem is that Nokia hasn't released it here yet, and they tell me they won't honor an
"international" warranty. Should I be concerned? Asking this here because all you guys are in the release zone. Recommendations / advice gratefully appreciated.

Thanx
