N95 Reviews
Since some people have started getting in retail sets, I thought we could post reviews from different websites as we spot them...the following is from tohchr over at Hardwarezone.com...all credit to him
Code:
- screen provides good vivid colors and brightness control by sensor is good - Battery life is acceptable of 2 days powered by a BL-5F 950mah (20 sms, 30 mins call, ect) - 5 Megapixel Carl Zeiss Tessar autofocus camera with LED flash had improved over the last few models. - N95 is powered by the fastest processor called ARM11 OMAP2420 running at 330 MHz. The processor is the same used in the Nokia N93/N93i. - Build in 160 MB internal phone memory and I believed our sets are shipped with 2gb microSD cards. - N95 built-in GPS receiver is quite sensitive and after obtaining coordinates, it'll keeps working under normal SG roads. The only area which lost the signal is the CTE underground tunnel. - GPS used Smart2Go software, maps are free for downloading - Navigation and voice guides services need to be purchased (optional). - Nokia N95 is a quadband GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and WCDMA 2100 MHz phone(3.5G). - Fast USB 2.0 Full Speed (12 Mbit/s) via Mini USB - N95 is a Symbian OS 9.2 S60 3.1 (3rd Edition Feature Pack 1) phone. - Good news is that N95 is compatible with most of the existing S60 3rd Edition software. - N95's screen supports landscape mode and portrait mode. - When sliding the keypad back in place, it will auto keylock after about 1.5 secs. - For Web browsing, it's now faster and less memory hungry. Had not experienced any errors while surfing. If I am not wrong, this is a new Nokia Web Browser version 2.0. - Music Player with equalizer supporting MP3/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+/WMA/M4A. - Playback of videos is smooth and movies look great due to the huge screen. - Video formats are MPEG-4, H.264/AVC, H.263/3GPP. I suppose it also supported Real Video. Conclusions: This is definitely a good multimedia phone and performance is fast! The Menu speed is even faster than my S40 7390 and might be slightly faster or on par with 6233. The screen is good, powerful processor with 2D/3D graphics and video acceleration. Connectivity and data transmission options including HSDPA, WLAN b/g, UPnP, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0. Able to record video clips of DVD quality, good MP3 player (with Sony earpiece). Audio and video playback capabilities via TV out connector. Built-in GPS receiver and good mapping software. Things I liked: * Fast OS and powerful processor running at 330 MHz * Improved 5 MPix Carl Zeiss Tessar camera with autofocus as compared with previous models * Built-in GPS receiver * Huge 2.6" screen * Quadband 850/900/1800/1900 GSM, 2100 WCDMA * Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g 54 Mbps * Bluetooth 2.0 EDR (3 Mbps) * A2DP profile for stereo audio over Bluetooth Headset * DVD quality video recording @ 30 frames per second * Able to use our own 3.5mm earpiece * USB 2.0 Full speed rather than previously "fast speed" (which is not very fast). * Able to set a duration to auto Keylock. * Able to set a duration to auto Lock the phone with a password. * Very light weight. * Fast Startup and shutdown (as compared to previous models). * Voice recordings duration of 1 hour instead of 1 min. Things I dun like: * The slider which will accidentally slide open the keypad if my jean is too tight. * SMS Counter which can be found in most S40 phones. * Time profile which can be found in S40 phones (this can be solved by using 3rd party softwares). PS: This review is based on my personal opinions. Thank you. |

Excellent. Thanks for spotting these reviews guys. Keep them coming.
As far as the smart2go software goes... sounds solid if you're not a big GPS navigation user, or haven't relied on TomTom for the past five years. Personally, I'm going to stick with my TomTom6 software and hold on to that Nokia LD-1W bluetooth GPS- even once TomTom works with the internal GPS. But I'm a TomTom junkie, and I use GPS ALL the time. For most users, it seems the Smart2Go software is going to work just fine- even without the upgraded navigation support. For those of you in a big city, such as NYC, I think this is gonna be great for walking. The only problem with this is that Steve states it will last only a couple of hours before a charge is required. |

Quite a good review, and thorough as well. Still makes me wonder more why we're not seeing anyhting from the "mobile diva" yet... :?
