URGENT problem with firmware update HELP

So I was updating the firmware on my N95-1 to v.21 (that's the one that came up on NSU even though I didn't change the product code or anything). My phone was almost fully charged, but with about 50 seconds left in the update, the phone battery dies and NSU says "connection to phone lost." So I unplug the phone from the computer, go get the charger and plug it in. It won't power up, so I take the battery out and pop it back in, and it powers up with a blank black screen and the front soft keys are lit up.

But I can't connect it back to my computer because it never asks me what connection type I want. So I can't select "Nokia PC Suite" and thus it cannot connect to my computer to finish the firmware update.

My phone doesnt work now because the firmware install was not complete, but I cannot connect it back to my PC to finish the update. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!! (ASAP)

P.S. I am in the United States so I don't think I have a Nokia Service Center....did I just fry my phone!??? OMG

You could try a hard reset;

1. Power off the phone (or remove the battery if it will not power off)
2. Press&Hold 3 * and GREEN buttons at same time
3. Power on (still holding the three buttons)
4. Wait 60 seconds (still holding the three buttons)

Hope it works!

Yes I recommend doing what sturgeon has said. Otherwise you should consider two options.

1. Return phone to Nokia/Nokia Service Center under the warrenty and get it reflashed.
2. With the support of someone from this forum reflash your n95 and return it to a usable condition.

However I recommend doing number 1 but before you consider that you should look at doing a hard reset and as many other tips as possible.

Good Luck :)

I tried the hard reset, but nothing. It still just stays on the backlit black screen with all the keys on the front of the phone lit up.

Also, if I take the battery out to turn the phone off (this is the only way I can), and I plug in the wall charger, it automatically turns on to the black screen. I dont know if this helps or hints at anything.

I emailed Nokia, but it's Sunday so I can't get a hold of any service techs. Man, this really sucks...do I really have to buy a new phone?

No, your phone is covered for these things, A simple repair will be done and you will get your phone back working. However just to confirm, did you change the product code using nss or was it just a normal update?

Some say you should hold down the reset keys on powerup until it does reset. Worth a try!

What are the reset keys? I did like you said - hold 3, *, and green, press the power button while still holding the three buttons and continue to hold the three buttons for over 60 seconds. The phone turns on (black screen, keys lit up) when I press the power button, but nothing happens even after 60 seconds of holding the *, 3, and green buttons.

My phone is under warranty so I guess I will have to send it in. It is just a big pain not having my contacts anymore. I have them all on my 7260, but that thing doesnt get reception anymore. And I have a couple other phones like RAZRs but they all suck and don't have my contacts and I dont want to have to type them all in manually :(

How long does it usually take for it to get fixed by Nokia? I'll send it in tomorrow I guess, and I'm in Minnesota, US.

Thanks for the help so far :D

I did not change my product code. I was actually surprised that it was updating to v.21 because of the other posts that said you had to change to a EURO product code to get v.21 on the N95-1. I suppose maybe I have a euro version phone...

Ok TrillyPop thats good. Good news to hear you will send it to Nokia, in regards to your question.

"How long does it usually take for it to get fixed by Nokia?"

I'm not actally sure on the time it will take, however if someone in the US can respond they will be able to help more.

A thanks would be nice for helping you in this difficult time your having :)

Also have you tried using NSS to start your phone in "test mode"? This will help to say if nokia will still be able to reflash your phone.

By reset buttons I mean 3, *, and green . As a last resort it has to be worth just keeping these down until something happens - or your hand falls off (?)
