Uh...

its staggering feature-set means it’s by far the best smartphone on the planet. A truly titanic battle with Apple’s iPhone awaits this winter.
What do you mean by this? Are you saying that the iPhone will be a battle for the N95 in terms of sales from all the apple fanboys, or in terms of quality and features?

Hmmmm.... :?

Well I would imagine both Nokia and Apple see it in those terms. Its not just about apple fanboys anymore, its about the amount of press their stuff gets. The amount of attention Apple get is over the top, and usually disproportionate to their market share, and it does relate to the fanboy phenomena. But their stuff is sometimes genuinely popular enough that it cannot just be brushed aside by pointing this stuff out. Im sure their competitors feel the same way.

The thing that make me intregued by the iPhone is the multi-touch and how thats used by apps & browsing etc.

What makes me laugh openly at it is the apparent lack of 3G and the closed-platform nature of it. If they dont open it up, and focus mostly on the US market, most of the potentially interesting things it could do will be locked down by the old idea that virtually every web service that people want to use on the phone, will only be available if Apple & the networks come to a deal with the web service in question, then its a joke.

After just over a week of N95 ownership Id say this and future N-series Nokias should kick the iPhones ***, if they can iron the bugs out a bit more, and if the iphone multitouh thing doesnt prove to be a wonderful experience for users.

His comment that there will be a "Titanic" battle coming directly after stating that the N95 is by far the best smartphone makes it sould like the iPhone might be a better device than the N95. The distinction of being a better device should be judged upon it's merits, not sales.

And if that's what they're trying to say...

Then- I don't even know what to say.

LOL! FAR TOO MUCH!

$699 or something I think. I don't really know though... I'm definately not following the iPhone thing that much.

I know wha you mean, I guess I just mean that its going to be seen as a battle in the press and some user communities. Even if you think its a very one-sided battle, and theres no comparison, I dont think theres anything wrong with an article talking about the upcoming battle - they are both devices that are on some peoples 'highly anticipated' list, even if you think the people drooling for an iphone are suckers ;)

I think you're missing the point of my ponderment... it seems that he's thinking the iPhone might be a more featureful device and a more powerful and better smartphone. No matter how much you like to listen to music, I don't see how someone can make this claim. I understand the argument that the press will eat up the iPhone, it's gonna be a hot item, and that they will sell a lot of devices- possibly, possibly more than the N95, blah, blah, blah- but as to the idea that the iPhone might be a better smartphone than the N95- seriously...

HSDPA, 5mpix cam, 3rd party software, removable battery... the list goes on all day long. Does the iPhone even plan to have a tv out?

Well I share those concerns but its premature to write it off. I havent seen a real review of a fully functioning iPhone, I wait to see what the reality will be. It probably will be smart at a few things and dumb at some thing that you and many others will consider essentials. Hopefully anything clever it manages to do will be incorporated into future device design by others.

The closed software on it certainly made me rant a lot when the iphone was first announced, all whilst there was an insane amount of hype around the iphone, with virtually nobody mentioning any of its downsides to start with.

For me it will all boil down to 2 fingers. Will I be intregued by the iphone because it makes good use of 2 fingers to control it, or will I be waving 2 fingers at it because its a silly joke?

Anyway Ive only just escaped a pocketpc type phone so Im not eager to go getting something thats made by a computer OS company in a hurry. Im digging the developer & opensurce stuff that nokia do, shame I picked a bad time to be introduced to Symbian because it seems like a break in compatibility between this version of symbian and previous offerings means there is a slight 3rd party app drought for the N95 so far, I presume & hope this wont take long to rectify?

No... I know exactly what you're saying and I believe it won't be long, we can be sure of that. We'll be seeing a flood of s60v3 programs soon. I'm suprised it's been this long before a real take off. Perhaps we just needed the N95 for developers to get excited about updating v2 programs. There are quite a few essentials that I'm waiting on right now.
