a fresh start with my N95

i have a lot of weird stuff and forgotten applications on my N95 (including 2 N-Gage icons) and some stuff also doesn't work since i got the v21 firmware.

i'm also buying a new 8 GB memory card so i thought this could be a nice moment to get rid of everything and do a fresh start just like having a new phone. i only want to keep my messages, contacts and gallery, everything else has to go. i was thinking of doing some kind of a back-up and then typing *7370#.

i would like to know if what i want to do could be achieved by doing the PC suite backup with all options checked except for the two "user files" ones. i would also copy the gallery to my PC and after the reset to my new memory card.

does that sound like a good plan? and would typing *7370# have any undesired effects (deleting everything=desired)?

thanks for your advice :)

by the way i have all my games and apps copied on my computer so no worries there

I don't see any problems with your plan as described, except for two minor points:

1. Do not restore your settings from the PC backup, this has been known to cause problems. Contacts, messages and images should be OK.

2. Type in *#7370#, *7370# won't do anything at all

Copy all your contacts to the sim card.
Save all your messages and gallery files on the card.
Re-update the fw..
Then copy the sim contacts to the phone and the messages/gallery files to your new 8gb card.
Now you can install apps/games that you want.

i get an error that i can't activate data transfer mode because the messages application is using my memory card.

i found the "fake" messages folder with PC suite. but somehow i have the feeling this won't work as well as copying real files.

copying my contacts to SIM worked nicely though :)

i spent about the same when i updated to fw v21.

and then some stuff didn't work. and some things still don't. for example all python scripts using the aXYZ module. and my super mario brothers 3 save file got corrupted :(

so the best solution is to clean everything up.
