Exclamation WARNING!! Your IMEI Can Be Changed!

Hi guys, got my N95 back from NSC yesterday.

Only the back light wasnt working, but It was due to water damage and they had to replace the motherboard.

**I "selectively disinformed" them and didnt mention it was due to water so i didnt have to pay a penny**

Anyway, after they changed my motherboard my IMEI was changed as well. That means my Symbiansigned Cert and other software i bought that is loced to my IMEI now have to be renewed. I never thought this was possible but apparently now i'm faced with signing a dozen files all over again. (maybe i'll just hack my phone instead)

So ppl just to let you know your IMEI is not permanent. God knows what else can happen if you take your phone to unauthorised repair shops..

Being as your Motherboard was changed, thats like changing the engine of a car, so its bound to have a different number, like a replacement engine has a different number to the originally fitted engine. (Engine/Motherboard used as examples only lol)

To find your Nokia Firmware version, key *#0000#. The V##.#.### shown is your current Firmware! Please add these details with Nokia model to your profile. This information will help others help you. Thank you.!

Of course your IMEI will be different if the motherboard is changed. Should not be a surprise to anyone IMO.

To be honest, if they chaned the MB, I would be more surprised if the IMEI didn't change.

Did you know that your Nokia comes with a 2 year warranty? Did you know that Carphone Warehouse are Nokia Repair Centres?
Damage from normal use: wobbly slider, broken keys, quiet earpiece etc... will be repaired for free, and usually the same day if you take it to a big store!

I would try cahnging your IMEI back with NSS. I think it can be done, just never tried it

Wouldn't that kinda nail your warranty? And isn't it also sort of, illegal too? (could be wrong)

I know what you are saying DJFlawless, it's for an innocent reason and the old IMEI is probably in a bin somewhere in the NSC now, but....

Hey! Did you change your name?

ironically the mother board is actually called "engine module " within nokia engineering ! When they changed it they basically do a swap unit so the handset id will change

Yeah I did change my name! lol I am slowly reaching my 18th birthday and I have decided it is time to grow up. My real name is Steve and DJ_FlawLess is just an old screen name with so many childish problems and activities I don't care to mention.

So as time goes past I age as all do and I decided it would be nice to be a little more mature with my screen names and maybe a little more business like.

Ok, now i feel like i'm the one living in the dark all this while. Signing is a real problem though since opda's website is down and symbiansigned is no longer open to the public. i just hacked my phone today and everything is working fine. :-)

When they replaced the motherboard of my phone on the last repair they basically just swapped the handset.

Even the stickers under the battery changed.

No, it will not, only a change of the motherboard means change of IMEI and it is definitely not a DIY job, so do not worry.

Changing your IMEI will likely end you up in prison not to mention a fine. Not the best idea

Once again, changing the front slider module will have absolutely no effect on your IMEI, so you don't need to worry.

Good to to see you back girl, we all missed you !

After Leong posted another of his bombastically titled but stating the obvious threads Armand got worried that his IMEI might change if he replaces his front slider. He has no intention of changing the IMEI on purpose, on the contrary, he was worried he might do it involuntarily and wanted to make sure it doesn't happen.

No one here has ever suggested or provided guidance on changing IMEI and we intend to keep it that way.

Yeah, I hinted that it might be earlier in the thread. I recalled that some folk use it as a method of removing the network lock applied to stolen phones. So hence why I assumed it would be illegal.

Changing the IMEI currently carries a five year prison sentence in the UK.

It can be done, I had a phone (ex girls) that was network locked and when I got it back they had changed the IMEI. I didn't query it much as I had other things to do.

I know how they did it but, I'm not going to share with anyone obviously.

Then you shouldnt have bought a stolen phone.

Changing the IMEI is illegal for exactly those reasons.
I do not give instructions on how to bypass satnav copy protection. So please do not ask via forum or PM.

you can change your imei... but if you do you face a prison sentence here in the uk i think its 7-10 years..... only the phone manufacturers are allowed so i wouldn't try it...

wow, didn't know that changing IMEI means prison time, hard time!
But here in Croatia murderers get away with 12 years,so I wouldn't want to end up sharing a cell with The Zagreb Slasher, and having him ask me one day what I'm in for...
My answer being: -I changed my IMEI.
Man,I would so get manhandled after that.
