To avoid people having to search through the 10 page thread on the firmware update, Im going to try and sum it all up here.
Re: N95 - new firmware version 11.0.026 available - Smartphones, Nseries and Eseries Devices - Nokia Support Discussions 1.go to Nokia UK - Phone software updater - Software - Get support and software 2.N95 is not on the list yet, select Nokia N80 or E61, download the software 3.start Nokia updater and it checks if update is avilable for your type of N95, example-N95 operator/unbranded 4.The reason its giving some people with unbranded no software update available is because its only on Euro 1 N95 at the moment, give it a week or two. Fixes: 1. Camera no longer shows red/purple tint. See here for example: Nseries WOM World » Blog Archive » N95 firmware upgrade: noticeable difference in images 2. Media Menu should load quicker 3. Other bugs fixes... If you have a branded version (O2, Vodaphone) you may have to 'debrand' your unit if you want the firmware update now. Guide to this is located here:Nokia Debranding Debranding your unit will likely void your warranty (from both Nokia and your carriar), so please wait until your provider releases a branded version (thanks gadgetman :) See here for more details: Firmware upgrades. im still confused as to what exactly is meant by this? Does it mean if I flash the software and then use the backup file which I created before flashing my phone it will brick the device?

It means that if you debrand your phone with a different product number, flash with the latest firmware, then try to restore your phone using a backup from the old product number; your likely to ruin your phone.

Thats good news :). I just wanted to give everyone a warning, as I read of such cases on All about Symbian and HoFo.

Admin,
I think it's kind of irrisponsible to mention debranding and/or changing product codes and not mention the issue of voiding your warranty with Nokia and/or your network (many have to get replaced via network if on a contract - like me on Orange). Also many netowrks have actually started adding clauses in contract supplied handsets mentioning unauthorised debranding, feature removal, or removing SIM locks. Upgrading seems fine. Nokia service points and networks know simply by looking at the menus, let alone the software version & variant that a phone has been debranded. Many users decide to take the risk to get debranded. Personally knowing the issues with many UK networks faced by users of other devices (regular user at Nokia forums under another user ID) there are many users stuck with a £500 device which no one will repair because of debranding and/or product code changing. This covers it (hmmm familiar user name ;) )Firmware upgrades. (Sticky) - Hardware, Codes, and Operator Issues - Nokia Support Discussions |

N95 Firmware upgrade v11.0.026
Well Guys,
Just upgraded my N95 with a little help with info found on via Google; Nokia Debranding: Nokia N95 Debranding Guide Basically, by de-branding your phone, and using a Euro2 Nokia product code, I was able to download & upgrade my firmware ;-) Watch this space |
