Unhappy nokia n95 imei blocked by 3

    hey,

i bought an n95 off a mate and he said it was working. i tested it myself, everything was working, camera, etc.. but one thing i assumed was working was the actual phone function.. so i sold it on ebay, and a day later after the buyer got the phone and told me the phone function isn't working, and said he rang 3 and they said it's imei blocked and reported lost.. and he wants a £30 part refund.

so now i dunno what to do .. i was wandering if it's possible for him to get the imei unblocked by phoning 3, making the phone function work again. i messaged him and told him to try that, or send me the phone and i refund him fully, or i refund him only £10 as comp for the phone function not working..

if someone could tell me if it IS possible to have the imei unblocked by 3, that would relief me. i would just have to tell him to ring 3 and get it unblocked.

i know t mobile can unblock imei's, 'cos my phone got stolen last year, and i got them to put an imei lock on it, and a week later i got the phone back (found it in a phone shop :|) and then i rang t mobile and they unblocked it for me and it was working...

sorry for the long post lol

would be grateful for a reply..
    thanks in advance

3 can unblock it IF you can prove you're the account holder, I'm not sure what the timeline is though, I think if they don't hear back to unblock within 30 days of it being blocked, the phone's blocked forever...

I was going to say you should refund him the full ammount, but then I realised you already offered him that...

Give 3 a call yourself and make sure the IMEI is actually blacklisted just to make sure he's not pulling your leg..

Just curious - did you make a note of the IMEI before you sold it?

yeah I'm with Angus on I'd phone and check to ensure the IMEI is actually blocked or just offer him the full refund then sell it to someone in the US. I'd buy it for pretty cheap
I cannot confirm nor deny anything I say or type to be truthful in any way.

I've heard (although I have no idea if it's true or not) that 3 use a different blocked database to the remaining UK networks, so I was led to believe that it will still work on Vodafone, Orange etc.

nope , once it's blocked on 3 it will be blocked on all these days .
The only way to unblock it is for the account holder that had it blocked to call 3 and get it unblocked but it sounds like your mate has pulled a dirty on you and reported it lost/stolen after he sold it to you .
Personally i'd be having a "word" with my "mate" by now in an effort to teach him the error of his ways

Just what I was gonna say. Always do this when selling a phone, makes sure they've not bought yours and are gonna send you back a different, shagged one.

See if your mate has any of the original paperwork/packaging for it.

Hmm, just had a thought, although I have all that stuff for my phone, the IMEI wont match it as I had a replacement from Voda that came OEM.
