N95 & BBC iPlayer

I have read numerous posts about how the Iplayer is now working with the N95 on this and other sites and am still confused!

I'm in the Uk, and have an N95 with firmware V 30.0.015.

Is there an Iplayer app that can be installed on the N95 or is it done via the web browser?

How can I download programmes on Iplayer on my PC to watch on the N95?

Have a look at this link:

I browsed that thread on my N95 8GB and installed the iPlayer with out any problems.

Works well across my wifi.. don't know about 3g !!

The iplayer app is discussed at length on a thread in the Third Party Applications area of this forum and I got the app from a link in that thread. I'm sure there's somewhere on the iplayer website where you could download it directly though.

As regards downloading stuff to watch later, it's not possible AFAIK at the minute. You can download the programs, but RealPlayer on the N95 doesn't regonise the format. That's because the programs are .avi which require Windows Media Player to play. I've had a coulple of tries to convert stuff I'd saved to MPEG4, but the DRM on them (I believe) won't allow it.

i think bbc i player uses more formats then the one you mention ive downloaded a few programs on my n96 and watched them one has been 3g and one has been mp4 so iam guessing they dont just use one format to convert and stream

the reason you cant download programs and watch them is when you download them to your device at the end of the download it retrieves a key for the program against your phone which then activates the downloaded program and let you watch it at a later date as it has been activated

iam guessing as of the moment the n95 isnt supported for downloading programs but just streaming

downloading programs and watching them on the n96 works all the time and it is a very good feature off the application i hope they make it more wide spread for other n series users as it really finishes the device off

since having the n96 i havent had any problems with i player at all it wors perfect downloading programs and streaming over wifi

as time goes on iam sure they will add devices to the full feature list

its not even officially supported on the n82 when you install the widget and run it it says this application isnt supported yet we support the n95 n96 iphone and itouch

hope that helps

ps you might be able to change the script of the program to allow the n95 to download programs and watch them but hey thsta nother subject alltogether :-)

have a good day
