How I Got My GPS / Maps Program Working

Ever since Ive had y N95 I havent been able to get my GPS & Maps program working.
I have done evrything you are suposed to do:
Be outside
Make sure the handset is slid up

I spoke to a nokia rep yesterday and expressed my fustration.
He told me the first time you connect can take up to 20mins and will get quicker after that.
He told me to be outside, using the Maps program and leave for 20mins.

HERES WHAT I DID:
Instead of freezing my *** off and getting soaking wet, I went into my galss conservatory opened the Maps program, connected to my WLAN point as the maps program asked me to and left for 20mins.

Came back to find it had zoomed right in on my street and now works when im in the house.

Now if you switch off the phone and try again, does it get connected faster than 20mn?

The GPS is really a hit and miss affair unfortunately.
After i flashed my N95 to the newer firmware it didnt lock on for 5+ minutes which surprised me (i've never had to go beyond 2 minutes to lock on before, even the very first time out of the box). I thought for a moment that the flash screwed up the GPS!!
It seems that the more often you use it the more likely you're gonna get a quick lock on

The GPS receiver is not always on when the phone is, only when an application (such as Maps or GPS Data) uses it.

You'll take a while to get a lock if:

1/ You're inside by a window; its more difficult to lock with all the satellites in the same part of the sky.
2/ You've moved since the last lock - it takes longer for the GPS to work out where it is

If I turn mine on in its windscreen mount about a mile from home it always takes less then a minute to lock. There are people who've had problems, returned the phone and seen a big improvement in the replacement
