N95 Modem Speed
HI There
I've a Rogers n95-4 running on the next-g network in Australia. It works great but when used as a modem i can't get anything like the maximum connection speed i get when i use the phone as a browser rather than my laptop. I've upgraded my firmware to try and fix the problem (v20.xx) and whilst the phone is generally more responsive and the modem likewise, i'm still struggling to get more than 500kbps. The speed is generally the same regardless of whether the phone is connected through bluetooth or via USB. thanks nozom |

are you running a normal dial up connection from windows networking or using the 'connect to the internet' option in pc suite ??
I've used both with decent success. If you use the dun connection, you can set the connection speed up in the modem properties and also fiddle with options like hardware flow control. Failling all that it may just be down to signal strength |

HI Maltloaf, thanks for the reply
using the Nokia "connect to the internet" all it does is just dial a connection and the speed seems identical from what i can see. i've not filddled with any hardware control and the connection speed is set to 961kbps but i dont think that makes any difference. also, it doesn't seem to be signal strength as i downloaded a 12mb file in about 45 seconds on my phone earlier today, the same download would take me around 5 minutes thru my laptop. cheers nozom |
