N95 / Nokia PC Suite Backup / Updater

Hi,

I wonder if you can please kindly help me.

I have an original N95 version. Entering *#0000# on the keypad shows V 11.0.026, 17-04-07, RM-159, Nokia N95 (44.01). I am using Nokia PC Suite V7.0.9.2 with my N95 mobile. When performing a backup from this PC Suite (all options selected), the messages option has an ! mark against it, whilst all the other options have been successfully backed up after completion. In the past using an older PC Suite version (about 3-4 versions prior to the one installed) used to work OK. Can somebody please kindly clarify the meaning of this?

The Nokia Phone Updater (V 1.4.56 EN) installed on my PC (Windows XP Pro) advises that there was a new version of the phone software available. When installing this new update, what will be erased form the phone?

Many thanks in advance, for all your help.

With kind regards.

I think that the current firmware for N95-1 is V30.0.015.
I have updated my firmware twice, the only thing I found to have been wiped both times were my contacts,so make sure you do a phone memory backup before upgrading.

V11 is very old firmware. What version firmware is Nokia Software Updater saying is availble ? The latest for an N95-1 is V30.0.015. If your phone is 'branded' it may be offering your networks 'branded' version of a newer but still not the latest version of the firmware. If so it might be a good idea to debrand first, there are literally thousands of posts and threads on how to do this use the search function on debranding and updating and be prepared for a long read. Suffice to say it's relatively easy to do. I would advise you back up everything other than any settings as these can cause problems between firmwares, make sure your phone is fully charged and plugged into the charger. Make sure general profile is selected and go for it.
