Unable to connect to 3G, clarification needed about bands

So I recently upgrade to a better plan which includes 3G with my local provider (in Colombia, southamerica in case you need to know) but the phone has not been able to connect to 3G. GPRS is working fine so my suspicion is that I'm unlucky enough to have a phone that doesn't work with the frequency of my operator.

Then again, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the N95 being quad band means I should be able to get 3G in any frecuency, I guess my assumption was wrong? I've researched and my provider runs in 1900, my phone I think is an N95-1, this is the *#0000# result

V30.0.015
15-07-08
RM-159
ŠNokia N95(01.01)

Yes it has the lens cover.

From what I've researched I'm screwed, then again I recieve contradicting info in some sites about how the N95 is quad band so I just wanted a clarification on the issue and hopefully a solution, is it possible to make it work in another frequency? I always thought this was more software related than hardware related.

Thanks for your time!

N95-1's 3G works in 2100, and its a hardware issue. What you need is a N95-3/4 the NAM versions.

Quad band refers to 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 - the 2G GSM frequencies phone can operate on. For the 3G N95-1 and 2 use the 2100 band while the N95 - 3 and 4 use the 850/1900 band.

****, I knew it but I was having futile hopes. Well, thanks for the confirmation. So I have another question, if I get the N95 8Gb NAM phone, can I do the change of product code with the nemesis suite to get the last firmware update? I did the whole procedure before and I really don't want to go back to being limited to the official releases for the North Americans N95.

Which reminds me, the phone is an N95-01 no doubt about it, but it didn't have the european code, which is the one I had to put lately with the nemesis suit thing, is that possible?

Edit: I just checked the phone and the product code listed under the battery is 0549949, which doesn't appear in the guide here! I'm starting to wonder where the hell did the phone came from...

The N95-1 is not strictly released only for Europe, but also for Middle East, Africa and most of Asia. If you have the original box it should state for which market it was intended on the white stickers with the bar codes on them.

The firmware for each of the 6 (yes, six) versions of the N95 is strictly model-specific, i.e. you cannot upgrade to a N95-1 firmware on a N95-3 handset, etc.

If you get a NAM version you will be able to upgrade only to the highest firmware version available for it, currently both N95-3 and N95-4 are on their respective versions of V.20.
