Problems downloading applications on unlocked (from a phone shop) nokia n95 8gb

I was using a nokia n95-3 that I bought brand new unlocked from amazon.com I've used it with att service with no problems at all. While I was in Canada I bought a nokia n95-4 that was used from a local cell phone shop that did unlocking and repairs. It was orginally a Rogers phone. It works fine but I can't download applications from the download section on the phone. It says that it can't update and that there is a general system error. I have the newest software update form nokia. When he unloced the phone it worked with any sim card but I couldn't update the software from nokia and had to go back to the store. He said he did a system refresh with nokia tech software and then I was able to download the system updates normally like I did on my n95-3. For downloading graphics, ringtones , and games the phone uses jamster.com I wanna download slingplayer for it but I don't wanny pay it was a free download on my n95-3 if i downloaded it from my phone and i had no problems
