Red face Is my new N95 really brand new?

Hello to all - my first post

I just got my new nokia n95 from a seller on ebay... it was listed as brand new unlocked, but as soon as i got it and hit *#92702689# it showed life timer 000017:44 !! isn't that 17 hrs of TALK time? not even usage time!!

    What do i do?

Also... this is vodafone branded but UNLOCKED, so could the seller have made a few calls to get it unlocked? Or can that be 17hrs of data transfer... or something like that? Or am i missing something?

However the phone outside is IMMACULATE, not a single scratch that usually come on phones even about a week old! So i'm kinda confused... is it really brand new and i'm wrong?? I still love it, because the cosmetic condition is flawless... I don't mind keeping it still.

And since this is supposed to be brand new... what are the FIRST few things I should do to see that everything is working?

    PLEASE HELP...

Hmm, well should you need to I don't think you would have too much of a problem raising an issue with PayPal (assuming that's your payment method) to get a refund.

However ... if it is immaculate, it's not got a loose slifer and no high pitched whistle, you would be well advised to keep it - flawless N95's are few and far between.

I don't want to dampen the mood but there may be a good reason the seller got rid.

    Check the following:

    1) Take pictures of both light and dark backgrounds and look for pixel imperfections. I had one that was returned that placed a 'streak' on all photo's taken.

    2) Listen carefully to the device. Many of them emit a high pitched tone - this is a fault with the screen itself.

    3) Ensure you can hear callers clearly, there have been a few instances of distorted earpieces.

    4) Seems obvious but check the keypad. I had one with a none too responsive number 2 key.

I am sure there are other initial checks that others can add.

    Welcome to the forum!

Thanks spyda, yes... the slider is sleak! I've heard so much about loose sliders on brand new phones, but this one is perfect!

Will run the other tests surely and get back to you soon.

About ebay/paypal... contacted him, awaiting his response. I doubt this will go on to that extent of contacting them though. I'll be pretty happy if he returns a few ££, because I really don't mind keeping it.

Also... mayyyyyybe he was unaware that this was used? Maybe he just obtained it from somewhere and sold it off immediately to make a quick buck? But then again... 17 hrs!!

As these phones are still so new I wonder what the chances are it's still tied to someone else's 12 or 18 month contract?

shouldnt matter on the contract side of things...

(unless the contract holder reports the phone stolen, then the phone will get blocked and not be able to make any calls, or recieve for that matter)
