n95 8gb? Done that, now what?
Hi All,
Long time lurker first time poster! So I have had the N95 8GB for 18 months on the 3 Mobile (UK) network, and love it. I use it mainly as a great instant grab-the-moment camera, and for browsing. Also some simple gaming, and maps. I am coming to the end of my contract and am due an upgrade. I've yet to see what they offer me, but I tend to like to hit them with what I want first. I'd like your opinion as to what handset I should consider....and why. Based on my usage as above. Is the N96 the logical option? how about the N85? what are the pro's and con's compared to the N95 8GB? Thanks in advance, Great community |

Funnily enough I'm in the same situation, 3UK Nokia N95 8gb, due an upgrade soon. I'm heading towards the N97 myself but still not sure whether the software is gonna be fixed properly or not anytime soon!

Welcome onboard , well I have not use the N97 , N85 and N96 ,
but it depands little what you want ,touch, camera , busniess and so on ? If you take much pics the N86 is a great choice , busniess the E-serie like the upcoming E72 with 5MP, but myself are real curious at the new N900 who start sale soon.

I have had the N95-8gb for about 18 months myself as well on O2 in the UK. The problem since then is that Nokia seems to now be lagging behind the rest of the pack in mobile tech developments. I don't see the newer handsets as a great step forward beyond what we have. The N95-8gb and similar N Series where among the best ever produced by Nokia. Now the Symbian OS is falling short when compared to other mobile O/S systems such as Android, WebOS and Windows Mobile 6.5.
I have since moved to the States and was unable to use the 3g on my European model N95 on US networks. I am now using a Palm Pre (out soon in UK) which is light years ahead of Nokia in many ways (user friendliness, gui, synergy of apps) but falls short in a few small areas. I still keep my N95 for photo/video/music/bluetooth as it seems to do these things better for now then the Pre (until Palm updates the WebOS again to improve these features) So it is with a sad nostalgic smile that I look at my N95 as it sits on the night stand. It almost feels strange not picking it up every time I leave the house...

I'll jump on this thread cause I too am due an upgrade in december from my old faithful N95 8Gb. I use it constantly for everything. Music and Maps in my car. Checking Gmail and syncing calendars. I even use it the gym as a countdown time between sets and active notes for keeping records of lifts and reps.
Am with vodafone and think I will stay with them as I have tried others but not liked the signal probs with where I work. I have been put off the N97 and keep looking at the satio and even the new storm 2 coming soon? I would be tempted by the new X3 or X6 (The 32 Gb one) but don't know when its release date is. (try searching two letter word in this forum its not easy) Decisions decisions. Any one tried a satio or storm 2 ?? would love to hear opinions

Use the Google customs search box in top right corner of each page, not the Search tab.

I was in this situation last weekend and opted for . . .N85.
Guy in Vodafone suggested that N97 is not worth the hassle nor cost ! N96 didn't want and very pleased with my new N85. Still using N95 8gb on PAYG but N85 main phone now. FM transmitter handy and new software is pretty much the same but tweaked. Slightly smaller phone RAM but very helpful having 8gb card for mass storage. |

Firmware failings aside I'm still edging towards the N97! Roll on 05/11!

Some good suggestions, thanks for the replies.
Went to some shops today to see what they thought was better than the N95, got the same 'not worth it' story about the N97. Also I liked the same keyboard feature on the htc touch pro 2, but I don't think I really need a mobile office. The htc touch looked good, but really let's itself down on the camera (no flash!). Liked the look of the Sony Satio, but unknown OS kind of puts me off. I may just keep the N95 and sell the upgrade that I'm offered! Still very undecided. 18 months ago it was an easy decision, but now there are so many good alternatives, what does nokia think is the N95 beater? N97, N96? Hmmm, confuuuused |
