Bad day updating/back ups

Hi guys,

having a really bad day today with Nokia.

N95 8GB RM 320 Firmware V30.0.018.

I have been trying to update my phone to the latest version with zero success. PC suite would not update it, kept coming up with the device recovery screen.

Looked on the web and took the advice, uninstalled PC suite, used PC suite cleaner and then installed the latest version of PC suite.Problem then was that the latest version of PC suite wont allow a back up to be made, said there was no phone content.

OK me thinks, I'll download OVI instead then. OVI allowed me to make a back up, however the same problem occured, device recovery screen kept coming up. I've disable firewalls, anti virus as advised on some forums whilst at the updating stage, but no luck.

Could anyone give me any further advice please?????????

You seem to have covered all the bases. Have you tried using a different computer ?

Yes, it has. Other options are simply keep trying and eventually it might update or do a hard reset and try again. There is no clear reason why sometimes this happens and anything different that you try could work.

Is your phone operable at this point? If yes, then keep trying. If not, do a hard reset and try again. But make sure you use the original USB cable that came with your phone as the way to connect. I remember of trying connecting my N95 once, via third party USB cable and did not have a successfull connection.

By the way, what OS are you using? If it is Windows 7, then you might want to run PC Suite on Vista or XP compatibilty mode. Just a thought. Hope it helps.

Thanks all, running XP which I though shouldn't be a problem.Phone is still working ok.

Actually connecting through a Motorola USB lead, works absolutely fine for everything else but installing the new software, anyway will pop down a friends house to use his computer on a Nokia cable. Hopefully that will work and this will just be an unsolved mystery, cheers and happy new year to all.
