How to check and upgrade your firmware.
Checking your firmware verson.
Go to the dialler on your handset. Type in *#0000* and it will come up with an information screen. You are looking for 'Software version'. It will be the long number. If you have an account here, please put it in your profile, this helps other members if you have a query. Example: V40.0.005 Checking for and installing updates. **It's wise to backup information on the handset before updating, even if the phone has UDP. You can do this using the Ovi suite** There is two ways of doing this, and unfortunatly you have to try both since Nokia often do not release the latest version for both methods at the same time. Over the air - OTA 1. Make sure your phone is fully charged. 2. Ensure the 'general' profile is active. 3. If possible, be where you can get a Wifi connection. 4. Using the dialler, type *#0000# . 5. Choose 'options'. 6. Choose 'Check for updates'. Note that this will cost you in data if you do not have a data plan or are not using wireless. 7. Accept any prompts regarding charges. 8. If there is a firmware update for your handset it will inform you what version it is and if you want to download and install it. Accept. 9. Your phone will start updating. During updating, it will restart and will probably display things you might not have seen it do. Be patient and let it finish. It should inform you when updating is complete. 10. Check you have the latest firmware by the steps at the start of this post. Updating using Ovi suite. **This assumes you have already downloaded and installed Ovi suite** 1. Follow steps 1 and 2 of the OTA option (battery charged and in general profile). 2. Connect handset to computer via USB cable in PC suite mode. 3. On Ovi suite, go to 'Tools - software updates'. 4. It will check for handset updates (and other software updates). The device firmware will be by the picture of your handset. 5. If an update is available, you can upgrade. Accept the update. 6. Your phone will start updating. During updating, it will restart and will probably display things you might not have seen it do. Be patient and let it finish. It should inform you when updating is complete. 7. Check you have the latest firmware by the steps at the start of this post.
