firmware update :S

I just got my n95 and I quickly wanted to download the v12 software for my phone. However the software updater only came up with the v11 instead of the v12.
phone model : nokia n95-1
I know this could be a product code thingy, but will it affect the warranty if i change the product code. Also what are the benefits for changing the product code? Help warmly appreciated. :)

note : my phone came with v11 software and not v10

Thx and friendly regards,

NsHFsH!!

Thanks for putting up the question. I just bought my N95 less then 6 hours ago! It's actually still in the box. I'm out in Taiwan by the way. Curious are the firmware updates universal for different regions? I've been using the Pocket PC platform awhile so going symbian is completely new to me, please help! Thanks to all in advance!

Different regions have their own Variants of firmware. It includes things like different language packs and different rules, like Asia Pacific (APAC) variants cannot turn off the camera shutter noise. In addition, Network Operators will release their own Variants of firmware with their own customisations. These typically are released later then the Generic Variants.

To find out what Variant you have, type *#0000#. The number in brackets on the last line is the Operator Variant. You can search on these forums or the internet for a description of what your number is.

There is also a Product Code printed on a label on the back of the phone under the battery. This number is also held in the phone and is used by the Nokia Software Updater (downloadable from the Nokia website) to decide what Operator Variant of firmware to download to your phone.

You can change this number with software; search on the forum for lots more information.
