How To: Install Maps Despite The Error Message
Installing Maps After Getting An Error Message:
Author: Salada2k Open... C:\Documents and Settings\<YourUserName>\Local Settings\Temp\download_temp (Substituting <YourUserName> with the username you use to log on to windows) Minimise the window. Start your map download. Re-open the window you just minimised and you'll see a .zip file created there. Make this zip file 'Read Only'. (Right click the zip file, choose 'Properties', then tick the box that says 'Read Only'). Make sure to do this before the download is finished! When you see the error message as the download ends, your map is downloaded and stored on your PC and all you need to do now is to manually transfer it to your memory card. Open the .zip file that you've just downloaded and you'll see lots of folders in there... 0,1,2,3,4,5, etc. Where you transfer these folders to, depends on the version of Nokia Maps that is installed in your N95. If you have the latest version installed, the version that no longer has tracking enabled without subscribing and that has the 3-day voice-directions demo available... Then copy the folders that you've unpacked from the downloaded .zip to: ?:\cities\diskcache (Substituting '?' with the drive letter assigned to your memory card in windows explorer) If you still have the older version of Nokia Maps installed in your phone, then copy the same folders to: ?:\Private\20001f63\diskcache (Substituting '?' with the drive letter assigned to your memory card in windows explorer) You now have the maps installed on your phone! ;) Salada N.B. Read this thread to decide for yourself whether to flash the firmware of an Orange or Voda phone. After upgrading, you are strongly advised to re-install from back-up, ONLY the contacts list and NOTHING ELSE! ... I'd also advise you to format your memory-card (or additional memory) before doing the firmware update... The reason being that software in the memory may try and access the phone as it boots up with changed firmware, which can cause problems, far safer to rebuild the phone & your memory-contents as though the phone was new, and in a 'just out of the box' state.... Sp00k Footnote from Pseudofinn... It should be cautioned that this action has been said, though not proven, to void the warranties of your device from Nokia and/or your service provider. Again, this has not been proven- but without verification from either company, you should know that you are taking that risk. It is certainly of very minimal risk, if any at all, to change the Product ID on your Nokia N95- and US law prohibits a company from denying warranty work on a product that has been modified if such modifications have not resulted in the failure that necessitates repair to be covered by a warranty. This very well may be international law. It has yet to be proven to me or any other member of the staff at N95users.com that this will indeed void warranties by either Nokia or your service provider, but in the event that it does- you certainly cannot hold N95users.com responsible for preforming ANY modification found in these forums posted by any of its members. Cheers, JamesK. Thanks for the very thorough guide on this process. N.B. How To: Install and Set Up SymSMB v2.0
Setting-Up SymSMB v2.0
N.B. Certain details have been changed to protect the innocent... Me! Start SymSMB program Go to.... Options/Settings ![]() 1. ACCOUNTS Select... Accounts/Options/New Domain: Enter the name of your PC (obtained by right-clicking 'My Computer' and selecting Properties/Computer Name and reading off the 'Full computer name:' as shown) Name: Enter your username, as recognised by your PC, (Detailed in Control Panel/User Accounts window) Password: Enter a password of your choice (NOT the one set up to access your PC) OR you can leave this 'as is', which means that when the program asks for a password, you need only press 'ok' to continue. You should now see: ![]() Pressing 'Back' displays: ![]() 2. CONNECTIONS Press 'Back' again and scroll to 'Connections' and select it, go to Options/New Name: Enter a name for the connection, any SIMPLE name you like, 'Fred' for example, will do here. Access Point: Enter 'Always ask'. Auto connect: Enter 'No'. Press 'Back' and you'll see: ![]() 3. SHARED FOLDERS Press 'Back' again and select Shared folders/Options/New Select 'Shared folder' and you'll see: C:\ E:\ SELECT C:\ and you'll see: Shared folder :C\ Name Disk_C Select 'Name: Disk_C' and enter a name for this drive... As it's the main phone memory, I called it "Data1" OK that and you'll see: Shared folder C:\ Name Data1 Press Back and select 'Yes' to add permissions, select ACERLC/Spook (i.e.Your equivalent) as 'Account' and verify Read & Write permissions, so that you then see: Account ACERLC\Spook (Your account name) Read Yes Write Yes Now press Back to return to the settings menu and select Shared folders again and select Options/New/Shared folder and this time SELECT drive E:\. Select 'Name Disk_E' and enter a name for this drive... As it's the memory-card, I called it "Data2" OK that and you'll see: Shared folder E:\ Name Data2 Press Back and add permissions as you did previously for drive C: Press Back until you reach the main settings screen, select Shared folders and you'll see: ![]() 4. NETWORK DRIVES Press Back to get to main settings screen again and select Network drives/Options/New Click on Name and call it a SIMPLE name of your choice, here I chose Joe, and press Back. Click Drive and choose one from the list that isn't already in use, I chose V:\ Click Access point, select User-defined and choose your WiFi access name. Click Account and select (in my case) ACERLC\Spook, as you have done before. Now we come to 'Host name' and it gets a little more complicated due to a bug that was discovered, entering the name of your PC can cause problems, so you need to use its IP address. On your PC go to Start/Run... enter 'cmd' and ok it... in the DOS window that appears, type 'ipconfig' and press 'enter' and you'll see the IP address of your PC listed, enter this address as the Host name. Click on share and enter the share name of the folder that you wish to be able to access on your pc (must be a shared folder) and the 'share name' of this folder must correspond to the name you enter here. To share a folder on your pc, right click the folder and select propertes. Select the 'sharing' tab and tick the two boxes under 'network sharing and security'. The share name will auto complete as the name of the folder and it's advisable to leave it this way! Select OK. N.B. I ignored the last part of this advice and named mine "cshare". You should end up displaying: ![]() ![]() Press back and you should see: Joe V:\(\\192.168.0.10) Press Back twice more to see: ![]() NOW CONNECT PHONE TO PC On the above screen go to Options/Settings/Connections and you'll see: Fred Not Connected Click to connect until you see: Fred 192.168.0.2 (or similar) Leave SymSMB connected!! ##################### NOW TO MAP THE PC DRIVES Open Windows Explorer and click on Tools/Map Network Drive Select the same drive letter that you chose earlier on the phone, in my case it's V: For the folder name enter: "\\ACERLC\cshare "... or your own equivalent names. Click on Map Network drive again, choose an unused drive letter and name the folder " \\Fred\Data1 " Once again click on Map Network drive, choose an unused drive letter and name the folder "\\Fred\Data2 " N.B. None of the three names are underlined! When/If asked for a password, use the one that you set up in SymSMB on your phone, If you left the password field 'as-is' then you don't need to fill it in, just click 'OK'. ##################### Now if you go to SymSMB on your phone and select V:\ from the first screen, you will see the contents of your shared PC folder listed there... Hopefully! You will also see extra drives listed on your pc, such as: "data1 on 'fred' (X" Clicking on these will open up the relevant directory from your phone as an external hard-drive on your pc. ##################### N.B. My thanks go to Spyda for his help in compiling these instructions. Last edited by Sp00k; 04-03-2009 at 12:58 PM. |

How To: Make a Start On Using Carbide Theme Creator
An introduction to Carbide UI
Author: Calamity Note: This is an introduction. Open up Carbide. If you don't have it already, you can get it here. First you'll be asked to select a workspace. This is simply a place where anything you create will be saved on your computer. You can change it if you fancy, but the default is okay as long as you remember where you've put it. :D When you start Carbide, you'll be presented with a Welcome screen. You'll want to create a new theme. You'll then be shown the following: ![]() Enter a name for your theme in the Theme name field (whatever you like!) and select "use default theme" based on S60 Theme. This means you will get a preview of the standard s60 graphics and you will then be able to edit them to your liking in a graphics program. To do this, you need to set up what applications you are going to be using to create your graphics. To do this, Open up Windows -> Preferences -> External Tools (you may need to expand the menu that says 'Carbide UI' on the left hand side.) Note: Vector / Bitmap: Vector graphics are scalable - which basically means they can be reduced or enlarged at any size and still retain their original quality. What you use to edit your graphics is entirely up to you though, but my bitmap editor will be Photoshop and Vector - Illustrator. Here is your main screen :) ![]() Note: if your screenshot doesn't show exactly the same or your missing anything, you can open Window -> Show View and select what windows carbide has open. On the left is the Resources panel. Here you will see all the components of the theme that are available to edit, grouped into sections. This ranges from the wallpaper and the clock to the text colour and screensaver animations. Each section is collapsible where you can view the components selected element. :) The middle panel shows you a preview image of the component you are editing (note: some of the more intriciate elements of the theme won't be previewed here.) On the right, in the Gallery, are samples of different screens showing what your changes would look like in other menus and screens on a phone. You'll notice if you click a component on the main preview it will automatically be selected from the "Resource" menu. Once you have a something selected, information is available to you about what makes up the element in the "Components" and "Properties" panel. The resources menu: There are many different elements to a theme, namely in these 4 categories: . Text . Graphics . Animations . Sound In a simple theme, the graphics + text colour is all you'll really want to change. Helpful tutorials on animation and inserting ringtones or SMS alerts into your theme can be found under more advanced tuts on the Carbide website, but lets just edit the basics for now :) Graphics Lets take the background image or wallpaper. Click it on the preview or select it from the resource menu. Note the 2 types: 'Active' and 'Idle'. If you don't know the difference, click each one for a preview. in doing this you'll notice more information is available in the 'Properties' and 'Components' menus about what makes up each of them. You'll want to right click the image and select either Convert And Edit in bitmap editor OR edit image in vector editor. It is safe to click OK on each prompt. Your image will then open in your graphics program :) Then, you can simply edit your graphic (or replace it) and go to File -> Save or the equivalent in your program. When you open carbide then, you'll see the graphic has been replaced by the image you saved. FYI: It's a good idea if you have a strong image on active standby the idle has a fade affect or similar so it doesn't conflict with whats on screen. Changing Text. Select the text, just like you did the graphic, and now take a look at the Properties panel. Lets take for example, the Softkey texts (Where it says Menu, Open, Contacts.) ![]() Note the circled area. This is the part that defines the colour of your text. All you need to do is simply click and change that. Now you just need to edit all the components you'd like to change. This can include the clock, the icons, or whatever you want. Now you know how much hard work goes into theme making and how time consuming it is, so think about that next time you download a theme! :D I will happily write a more indepth tutorial when I have time if anyone cares But I hope this provides some people with a starting point.N.B. The main reasons for caller ID not working are:
1. Duplicate entries in contacts - by FAR the most common cause and unfortunately, the most awkward one to fix. If the phone finds the same number against more than one name, it doesn't know which to use so, perfectly sensibly, it defaults to showing the number. The only way to fix this is to remove duplicates from your contacts. Best way to do this would probably be in Outlook on the PC, but assuming you can't do that, then you have to find the numbers that aren't working a use the LATEST version of the Nokia Search tool to find the duplicate entries: NOTE: when you search, use PART of the number to avoid problems with formatting: searching for +441234567890 will NOT find +44 123 456 7890 whereas searching for 789 would. 2. Using your international dial code instead of '+' Not sure if this applies to all phones, but if you store your number using your county's international dial code (eg: 004412345678990 - WRONG) instead of the '+' sign (+4412345678990 - RIGHT), it can cause problems. 3. "(0)" area code prefixes Only a problem if you synch with MS Outlook. When you specify a country in MS Outlook, it will insert "(0)" into your phone number after the country code - while somewhere in Redmond, Bill Gates cackles - so +4412345678990 becomes +44 (0) 12345678990. You need to remove the (0). 4. 9 and 10 digit numbers There has been one report of problems with 9 and 10 digit numbers where one size doesn't work with SMS and the other with calls. I think you know what you should resort to doing if still cant sort out the problem..re-update fw! Last edited by Mr G; 02-27-2008 at 09:31 AM. |

To obtain a DevCert (Developer Certificate), enabling you to sign applications yourself.
Probably the simplest way would be to follow this recently posted Guide from IJM OR... Even simpler... And in ENGLISH!! There are currently two other main sources from which to obtain DevCerts, iMobile and OPDA, full instructions of how to proceed on each have been published by 'Sony' on mynokiamobile.org. 1. iMobile Instructions. 2. OPDA Instructions. N.B. You don't need to use a part of your mobile number as instructed, just enter 13, followed by 9 random digits. Click on the illustrations in the instructions above, to enlarge them. 3. Latest... OPDA English Version 4. A further option... email received from S60 Cert Key, dated 9th Oct '09 Hi Sp00k Just a little update to let you know how things are progressing at s60certkey.com We are pleased to announce all problems are now fixed and our backlog is cleared!
