    SIM card registration failed

3 days ago my phone suddenly said SIM card registration failed. It has worked fine for 3 yrs, upgraded firmware 12 moths ago. It's always been on o2.
    1. I tried the sim in another phone and it works so it's not blocked
    2. I tried my wifes o2 sim in my phone and it say SIM card registration failed so its the phone.
    3. I tried a sim from 3 and it and it works so the phone is not blocked.

I thought maybe o2 have done something with my IMEI. I contacted o2 who said the usual, clean the sim, try other sims etc and then after going quiet for a minute said take the phone to an o2 shop who will check it.

What will they do in the shop? any ideas? I cant get to a shop easily so if it is something I can do myself it will save me the effort. (iv'e change the case and screen in the past and I am reasonable competent when it comes to pulling things apart)

How old are the O2 SIM cards you tried?

I am in the same position: 'SIM card registration failed.'

I have replaced the SIM (twice), I have upgraded the firmware. My SIM works in other phones (so the SIM is OK), and other SIMs (O2 and T-Mobile) work in my phone (so the phone is not blocked). There is another post like this at Hi, I have very strange problem with my Nokia n95. It simply...

I don't really know what to try next... It feels like it's something O2 have done...

Well, I don't know why, but the phone now works. The phone has been offline for a couple of days, and I have had it unlocked in case that helped. Someone tried an Orange SIM in the phone and that worked, then when I put my O2 SIM back in, it worked! So I am none the wiser, but grateful. I still wonder if it was something that O2 did...
