N95 - Where has all my internal phone memory gone?

Hi,

I am REALLY hoping that someone here can help me out as my phone is quickly becoming unsable to me.

I have a N95 with a 4Gb memory card that I use to keep all my music, photos, videos etc on.

Over the last couple of days the phone has started to complain about "not enough phone memory. delete some data" or words to that effect and now "no free memory. delete some data".

But I can't work out what is eating up all the internal phone memory. If I look at the memory usage screen for the phone memory it reports:

147 MB Memory in use
0 B Free Memory
411 B Calendar
30 kB Contacts
0 B Messages
0 B Images
0 B Sound files
0 B Video Clips
0 B Documents
0 B MIDP Apps

So whatever is eating up that 147MB of memory? Does anyone have any ideas?

I have installed various little apps/games to the phone and since deleted them - do I have to do an equivalent of "empty trash" to actually physically remove them from the phone once I've deleted them (if that makes sense).

I do hope that someone can help, as I just can't work out what's going on.

It's at the point where I now can't even receive texts as I apparently don't have any free memory - the little messge envelope is flashing on the screen tho.

Any help or advice would be most gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Face

1. Delete internet cache:
Menu -> Web -> Options -> Clear Privacy Data -> Clear Cache
(Cookies and History take up a much smaller amount of data space but are also removable from this string)

2. Download Y-Browser (Freeware) onto your phone and delete any files in:
C:\Data\Installs

3. Explore: C:\System\dmgr\ - And look through the individual folders for unwanted large files; Files can get stuck there if not downloaded properly

I had exactly the same problem and found these steps got rid of a certain bulk of the apparent un-accounted memory

But a fresh restart will do the best clearout if you want to make sure everything disposable is gone (*#7370#)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I've finally got it sorted. I don't know what was causing the problem, but after trying both the 7370 and 7780 resets and getting nowhere I tried the turning-on with the green, 3 and * buttons held down and that seems to have fixed it.

Completely reset the phone, but it's ok - everything i wanted to keep was on my memory card anyway!

Thanks again and I'm going to d/l that y-browser app anyway.

Theres also a small program called "Memory Up Mobile RAM Booster" from MobiStudio.

Have a look if you can find that from the shop. Don't know how good it is, but there might be a trial version.

Thanks, I had an old 2MB PDF in there that I'd looked at on a web site about 2months ago!

Have you looked at your memory status?
Have you read gizmoratty's post above?
