Yes! It's ridiculous for a 5mpix camera phone to lack such rudimentary lens protection! 202 81.78%
No- I think it was a cheap gimmick to make the N95 "seem" like a proper digital camera. 12 4.86%
No- I think it takes longer for me to capture an image with that lens slider in the way. 13 5.26%

One of the reasons I got my Black N82 over the 8GB (which I already owned...).

I wish Nokia would just get this already!

I had the original N95 as well at the N95 8GB.
The slider activating the camera was a great feature, and my N95 8GB suffered lens scratches affecting picture quality after only a few weeks. I bought a replacement off e-bay and it was simple enough to replace myself, but I could really do with an aftermarket protection so I don't need to keep replacing the lens.
I would have considered an N96 upgrade, but not without lens protection.

Hi!

Because it is has good camera (one of the major reason I bought over and Iphone) I purchased a carrying case for it.

Even my 6620 (1.3 MP), I had a case for it. Screen and camera - immaculate on retiring.

Yes, they should have been a slide cover for this phone - or Nokia should have a convenient protect case provided.

I actually took a picture of a whiteboard at a meeting that failed to print, and OCR'ed - it worked because of the 5 MP resolution.

However, it is slight failing for a phone of this caliber.

This might sound a bit simple....but has anyone emailed Nokia asking them why they did not include a slider or use anti scratch glass? Maybe enough emails would elicit a change for the future? Or some reasonable priced fix?

I would not be surprised if Nokia folks pop into this site once in a while...

I would just like to say that I was pondering about which phone to get..N95 or N95 8gb...Ultimately I decided to go with the plain N95,and one of the main reasons that tipped the scale for me was the camera shutter.I haven't regretted it.My boss has the N95 8gb,and takes really good care of it,but nevertheless has managed to get 2 small scratches on the lens,so all of his photos are...well...c-r-a-p basically.

Thumbs down

My vote is for a lens cover !! My anti glare coating is now worn (not scratched) and the quality of my photos degraded severely. Particularly if I take photos in back light. I get a horrible light haze around the subject. In fact it is so bad I prefer not to use the camera at all. FYI my phone lives in my pocket and only shared with soft items like hanky and such. Never keys!
I also know that the acid from your fingerprints on the anti glare coating eats it away. So, how good is that as the position of the lens is where your fingers seem to end up during normal use. Stupid!
