Updating firmware, changing product codes...please HELP!

Hey guys, I've got an unlocked, unbranded handset from CPW, unfortunately it's not showing the update to V20.

Both product codes I've seen for Euro 1 (sand and plum) are available though, I've downloaded the program to change the codes but had a couple of questions...

What are the differences between Sand and Plum codes? I've seen THREE Euro 1 codes...are they all different?

If I change the product code back after the update to V20, for warranty reasons, will this 'cause a conflict with my product code and hardware? Will it 'cause any problems? I suspect it will, else the update would be available for my phone right now?

Lastly, is this the best method:

Wipe phone.

Remove memory card.

Change product code.

Update firmware.

Insert memory card.

???

Thanks a lot!!!

Sand is for the phones with the sand colour rear cover, and plum ones are... well you can guess I suppose.

There's no need to wipe the phone before upgrading, it's wiped as part of the process, and no need to remove the memory card either.

You can change the product code back when you're done with no troubles, it wont affect anything.

Does anybody know why there is such a delay on the new firmware for unbranded phones from the CPW?

I fail to see what could be the cause for this firmware to be so far behind others when there is no network to get in the way!
It has been the same for each new version that has been released.

I'm happy to wait a few days for it rather then start changing product codes but my patience is now beginning to wear a bit thin......!
:-(

You don't need to wipe your phone, the firmaware upgrade will do this for you, just back up what you need. It's generally recommended not to try and restore Settings made with one firmware to another firmware.

It doesn't matter whether you use the plum or sand Product Code. I'm pretty sure that you will get the same Country Variant or Operator Variant of firmware. That's the number in brackets at the end when you press *#0000#.

The Product Code has no effect on the operation of the phone.

Are you sure your phone is unbranded, O2 phones supplied by CPW look unbranded but if you look at the connection saetings you'll see O2 connections that you can't edit or delete because they're in/from the firmware. It's best to quote your Product Code whenever you have a Product Code related query.

As long as you have FW v12 to higher you can use A-GPS which is as good as it's gonna get for the N95 :)
