Howdy people
My first thread ![]() Anyway, I was wondering what equaliser settings everyone uses on their N95.. I ask because it seems quite difficult to achieve a nice sounding result.. Out of curiosity, I'd like to see what kinda settings you all use to get your N95 sounding alright for you.. These are the setting I use with my Sony MDR-EX90LP in-ear earphones, which makes my N95 sound like my Sony NW-E99 walkman/MP3 Player.. ![]() Regards, Rob.

Hmm interesting thread. I have played around a bit with it, but not much. I have around 200 tracks on my N95 (Mainly '80s - yes, I am that old), but I can't really wear headphones while driving a works van. It just sound tinny what ever through the N95's in built speakers. I'm thinking about chucking £12 at a solution, one of those audio tape thingies that go into a car stereo that are wired via a 3.5mm jack plug. I saw them before Christmas in Sainsburys of all places. I wonder if that would work. £12 is nearly 6 pints so its a dubious investment.

I keep my eq settings flat (no boost or cut in the gain) and all the fx (loudness, stereo widening) off. I like to hear music the way it was when it came out of the studio and think you get a better idea of what was intended that way, for instance in the screen shot there is a huge bass and top end gain with a resulting dip in the midrange. The area where the dip is seems to me to be just about where the vocal "presence" or clarity is percieved, so you get loads of bass, a very bright top end and muddy or missing detail in the middle - BUT - it does depend on what headphones, speakers etc. you listen on - and what you like! If you like it like that great, but with my Beyer cans, that amount of bass and hf gain blows my ears off!
Regarding the second post, I don't have bluetooth on my car stereo and have used the cassette thingy mentioned but hated the quality, leads and stuff hanging out of the slot (got a line in, but CD changer is in it). I've just got a 205 channel FM transmitter in the post this morning and so far it seems much better - and was only £7.99 inc postage. Sound quality is pretty good without too much hiss and crap in the background provided you turn the volume right up on your N95. You can use this anywhere where there is a FM radio too so you are not restricted to a cassette slot (dying breed anyway) or a line input. Good service from this place, ordered Thursday, came today (Sat). I tried using your settings....but I find the background hiss amplified by a LOT.
I think I'm gonna stick to default for now :P |

Yea thats a downside to the N95; the hissing. But is only audiable in quiet tracks really.. I have since slightly toned down the higher ranges though.. And it is very much to do with what earphones you use too..
But, each to their own with regards to EQ settings.. But I did create this thread to see what settings other people use on their N95's.. Not too successfull though I see.. ![]() Well thank for the replys anyway, people. Regards, Rob.

I found that I could not really make much difference with the sound using the equaliser on my N95, not sure if Im tone deaf or what lol.
What app do you use to post up a screen shot on your N95 by the way? Thanks

The N95 music player with flat eq settings, the use of a good codec and high quality headphones gives me a result that is close enough to one of my original studio master recordings to be recognisable. If I use extreme eq settings on the N95 the result is nothing like the original. If you use a good audio codec at an appropriate bit rate the N95 will give good (not perfect - but very listenable) results. I'm favouring HE-AAC v2 at 48 kbps at the moment. This gives very good quality with very small file size. s. Last edited by sturgeon; 01-13-2008 at 09:31 AM. |
